Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s daughter, Hope Walz, took to TikTok this week to address what she described as a “gross” trend of men telling women to relax, all sparked by a seemingly harmless comment on her social media post. The rant, which quickly went viral, showcased her frustration with internet etiquette—or lack thereof.

“I wouldn’t normally respond to comments like this, but I just wanted to have a little conversation about it,” she began, her tone simmering. “You don’t get to come onto someone’s page, leave a hate comment, and then when they respond, tell them to relax. Especially when it’s a woman.”

The “hate comment” in question? A follower allegedly told her to “relax.” For most people, it might be a throwaway line, but for Walz’s daughter, it struck a nerve. She insisted the comment reflected a larger pattern of men patronizing women.

“I’ve had people tell me to calm down and to relax my whole life, and it typically seems to be a thing that men say to women,” she continued, before diving into a scathing critique of internet users with “zero followers” or “anonymous profiles.” The target of her ire, however, wasn’t faceless.

“This guy happens to have his picture as his profile picture. Most of them don’t. But of course, this one seems to be with his wife. Maybe you should tell your wife that you’re hitting on other women’s Instagram or TikToks,” she speculated without evidence.

The nearly two-minute video spiraled into a lecture about the “audacity” of social media users who criticize public figures or creators and then “play the victim” when called out. “Go focus on your family, seriously,” she quipped in a final jab at the commenter. Critics on social media were quick to pounce on the governor’s daughter, accusing her of overreacting to a benign comment and making unfounded personal attacks.
