The FBI stopped former Rep. Eric Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport this weekend and seized his electronics, two sources confirmed to the Daily Caller.

The airport confrontation marks a significant escalation in what has become one of the most politically explosive investigations involving a former member of Congress in recent years. Federal agents intercepting a former lawmaker at an airport and confiscating personal devices signals that investigators are moving aggressively to preserve potential evidence.

Agents also executed a search warrant at his Washington, D.C., home. Swalwell is at the center of a federal criminal investigation.

The dual-pronged enforcement action—simultaneously seizing electronics at an airport while executing a search warrant at his residence—suggests investigators may have been concerned about the potential destruction of evidence. Such coordinated operations are typically reserved for cases where prosecutors believe there is a substantial risk that evidence could be compromised if advance notice were given.

Two sources confirm the FBI stopped former Rep. Eric Swalwell at San Francisco airport this weekend and seized his electronics.

The White House Transparency Task Force declassified documents Monday showing Swalwell allegedly had “physical relations” with Christine Fang, known as “Fang Fang,” at least twice.

Fang is a suspected Chinese spy.

The declassification of these documents represents a dramatic shift in how intelligence information about Swalwell has been handled. For years, details about his interactions with Fang remained classified, sparking partisan debates about whether the public had a right to know about a sitting congressman’s connections to a suspected foreign intelligence operative. The timing of the declassification, coming just after the FBI’s enforcement actions, raises questions about whether the two developments are connected or whether the release of this information was long planned.

Swalwell is under criminal investigation for alleged sexual misconduct.

The former California congressman resigned from Congress earlier this year after facing a slew of sexual misconduct allegations.

Swalwell’s departure from Congress ended a political career that had spanned over a decade. He had represented California’s 15th congressional district and served on high-profile committees, including the House Intelligence Committee, where he had access to some of the nation’s most sensitive classified information. His fall from political prominence has been swift and stunning, transforming him from a rising Democratic star into a former congressman under federal investigation.

At the time, Swalwell was mounting a bid for California governor and had emerged as a potential frontrunner in the Democratic primary.

His gubernatorial ambitions represented what many political observers saw as a natural next step in his career trajectory. California’s governor’s race is among the most prominent and expensive state-level contests in the nation, and Swalwell’s strong name recognition and fundraising capacity had positioned him as a serious contender in what was expected to be a crowded field.

One former staffer accused Swalwell of serious misconduct. According to CNN, she alleged that after a spring 2024 night out in New York, she woke up to Swalwell having intercourse with her in his hotel bed. She continued to allege that he refused to stop when she said no.

The allegation prompted the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office to open an investigation into the congressman.

Manhattan prosecutors have jurisdiction because the alleged incident reportedly occurred within New York County. The District Attorney’s Office has a specialized unit that handles sex crimes cases and has prosecuted numerous high-profile individuals in recent years. Whether the current FBI investigation is related to, separate from, or coordinated with the Manhattan investigation remains unclear.

Swalwell has denied the allegations. In a statement announcing his resignation, he said, “I will fight the serious, false allegation made against me.”

His resignation came shortly after he suspended his gubernatorial campaign, citing “mistakes in judgment.”

The language Swalwell used in suspending his campaign appeared to acknowledge some level of wrongdoing, even as he denied the most serious allegations against him. The phrase “mistakes in judgment” left ambiguous exactly what conduct he was referencing, fueling continued speculation about what other information might emerge.

The charges remain allegations. The case has not been proven in court.

I am suspending my campaign for Governor.

To my family, staff, friends, and supporters, I am deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I’ve made in my past.

I will fight the serious, false allegations that have been made — but that’s my fight, not a campaign’s.

The House Ethics Committee has launched a formal investigation into Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) over allegations of sexual misconduct with a congressional staffer — the latest California Democrat to face scandal in what’s become an unusually turbulent year for congressional ethics.

The bipartisan committee announced Monday it is reviewing allegations that Gomez “may have engaged in sexual misconduct” in violation of House conduct rules, including “inappropriate sexual contact with a House staffer.” The investigation represents a significant escalation in a matter that first emerged publicly earlier this year, and adds Gomez to a growing list of members facing ethics scrutiny over workplace conduct and relationships with congressional staff.

The probe follows an April New York Post report that Gomez was seen kissing a much younger congressional aide in the backyard of then-Rep. Eric Swalwell’s Washington residence in August 2023. That initial report sparked questions about whether the encounter violated House rules governing member-staffer relationships, a gray area in congressional ethics that has come under increasing scrutiny in recent years as workplace conduct standards have evolved across American institutions.

“Years ago, I made personal mistakes outside my marriage that have caused real pain to my wife and family. Although my actions were consensual in nature and haven’t violated the law or House ethics rules, that doesn’t diminish the impact that these mistakes have made on those I care about the most.”

Gomez, 51 years old, acknowledged the extramarital conduct in June but insisted his actions were consensual and didn’t violate ethics rules. His public statement at the time sought to address both the personal dimensions of the situation and the potential professional ramifications under House regulations.

He told CNN he sought professional help to “re-center and heal” his relationships and would “move forward with honesty, transparency and respect.” The congressman’s response reflected an attempt to manage both the political fallout and personal consequences of the allegations while maintaining his position that no formal rules were broken.

The congressman said Monday he would cooperate with the investigation. The committee cautioned that an investigation does not itself establish that Gomez violated any law or House rule, and declined to provide further details on the allegation. This standard disclaimer accompanies all Ethics Committee investigations, emphasizing the preliminary nature of the inquiry and the presumption that members remain in good standing unless and until findings are made.

Gomez remains on the ballot for reelection in California’s 34th Congressional District. He advanced through the state’s top-two primary and will face far-left Democrat Angela Gonzales-Torres in November. The intra-party general election contest is typical for the heavily Democratic Los Angeles-area district, though the ethics investigation adds an unexpected variable to what might otherwise be a routine campaign.

The timing is particularly awkward: Swalwell himself resigned from Congress this year amid sexual misconduct allegations — and the alleged Gomez encounter occurred at Swalwell’s own residence. Swalwell has denied wrongdoing. The connection between the two California Democrats and the parallel nature of their controversies has fueled broader questions about workplace culture and accountability within the congressional delegation.

The Ethics Committee has also recommended that Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC) be censured after finding he violated House rules involving sexual harassment and created a hostile work environment. Edwards subsequently abandoned his reelection campaign and has denied wrongdoing. The bipartisan nature of recent ethics investigations underscores that congressional workplace conduct issues transcend partisan lines and have become a institutional priority for House leadership.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has endorsed a broader ban on sexual relationships between lawmakers and congressional staffers, calling them inappropriate in a workplace. Johnson’s position reflects growing recognition that power imbalances inherent in member-staffer relationships create potential for exploitation and complicate questions of genuine consent, even when both parties claim the relationship is voluntary.

Current House rules do not categorically prohibit members from engaging in relationships with staffers who work for other members, though a bipartisan task force is considering whether such relationships should be banned outright. This loophole has emerged as a central focus of reform discussions, as existing regulations primarily address relationships between members and their own direct employees while leaving relationships with other members’ staff in a less clearly defined regulatory space.

For now, the committee has not determined that Gomez violated House rules, and Gomez maintains his conduct did not constitute an ethics violation. The investigation could take months to complete, and possible outcomes range from complete exoneration to formal sanctions depending on what investigators determine about the facts and circumstances of the alleged misconduct.

The Senate Ethics Committee has cleared Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., of sexual misconduct and campaign finance allegations — but the lawmaker who filed the complaint isn’t backing down.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., fired off a blistering response on X after the committee dismissed her claims, declaring: “Once a creep, always a creep, and you’re gonna need it.”

Luna filed the complaint earlier this year in the wake of former-Rep. Eric Swalwell’s scandal-filled downfall. Swalwell, a close friend of Gallego’s, resigned from the House following a bombshell San Francisco Chronicle report alleging he sexually assaulted a former staffer.

The Ethics Committee told Gallego in a letter Monday that it found no evidence supporting Luna’s allegations.

“Based on the investigation of the Committee, the Committee did not find evidence that your actions violated Federal law, Senate Rules, or related standards of conduct.”

Gallego responded with a statement calling the accusations “right-wing conspiracies peddled by far-right activists like Anna Paulina Luna, the White House and their allies.”

He demanded an apology from Luna for “weaponizing the ethics process” and said he’ll keep “holding Trump Republicans accountable for high costs and new wars.”

<img decoding="async" src="https://a57.foxnews.com/static.foxnews.com/foxnews.com/content/uploads/2026/06/1200/675/gallego-luna-split.jpeg?ve=1&tl=1" alt="Split of Sen. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., on Monday after a monthlong investigation. (Graeme Sloan/Bloomberg via Getty Images; Andrew Caballero-Reynolds/AFP via Getty Images)

Luna wasn’t having it.

“The allegations are not conspiracy theories. You’re a gross example of representation,” she shot back on X.

Luna brought up Gallego leaving his pregnant wife during his Senate campaign and warned him to keep raising money for his legal defense fund.

“The good news about D.C. is everyone talks, and eventually the reporters come forward with your texts. Do yourself a favor and keep raising for your legal defense fund.”

Gallego has recently faced scrutiny over a Politico report that he spent thousands in campaign cash on luxury travel, Super Bowl tickets and childcare.

The Arizona senator defended the spending, telling Politico that Democrats and Republicans in Congress “regularly travel with their wives and children, as is permitted by the FEC.”

Gallego also addressed his friendship with Swalwell, saying the relationship “clouded my judgment” regarding rumors that swirled about the ex-lawmaker for years in Washington.

In a jaw-dropping turn of events, Graham Platner, a prominent Senate Democrat, seems to be fumbling through finding a scapegoat following reports of his rumored sexual escapades. According to recent insights, Platner managed to maintain an account on the messaging platform Kik, raising eyebrows and concerns among the conservative base.

As these allegations unfold, the patriotic community stands firm in demanding accountability and transparency from its leaders. It’s clear that the values cherished by conservatives are being challenged yet again by those who claim to represent them.

For those of you out there who hold the truth in high regard, remember that it’s through vigilance and dedication that we can preserve the integrity of our democratic institutions.
