“I appreciate the speculation, but I am staying in Congress and running for re-election. It’s an honor to serve the people of Florida’s 23rd district,” Moskowitz wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday morning. The response comes amid reports that Moskowitz—a vocal critic of Trump during his presidency—was being considered to lead the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in a second Trump administration.

Moskowitz, who served as Florida’s Director of Emergency Management under Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, earned bipartisan praise for his management of natural disasters, including hurricanes. His expertise led some observers to float his name for FEMA’s top post in the Trump administration.

According to CNN reports, two sources familiar with Trump’s deliberations rumored Moskowitz as a leading candidate to head the Federal Emergency Management Agency. An additional source close to Trump’s transition team corroborated that Moskowitz was under consideration. Details about a meeting between Moskowitz and Trump were never confirmed, but insiders viewed the congressman as a formidable contender for the position. If selected, Moskowitz would have become the highest-ranking Democrat in the Trump administration.

Moskowitz has a long history of public service in Florida, having previously served as the Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management under Governor Ron DeSantis from 2019 to 2021. Moskowitz recently became the first member of his party to join the House’s Delivering Outstanding Government Efficiency (DOGE) Caucus.
