Kari Lake is eyeing her first electoral victory this November in her second statewide campaign in Arizona, and Senate Republicans are hopeful that the news host-turned-candidate will clinch the win this time around. According to a recent internal poll conducted by Peak Insights, Lake is currently tied with Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ).

Both candidates are competing for the seat currently held by Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), with each garnering 46% support and 8% of voters still undecided.

The poll also showed a tight contest on the national stage, showing former President Donald Trump leading Vice President Kamala Harris. In the three-way race, which included independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump received 44%, Harris captured 42%, and Kennedy secured 11%, with 3% of voters undecided.

The two Republican candidates have gotten some help lately. On Tuesday, former Arizona Governor Doug Ducey (R-AZ) announced his full support for former President Trump and U.S. Senate hopeful Lake. Ducey had previously clashed with the MAGA-oriented faction during his tenure as governor, the job Lake sought in 2022.

“Much is on the line this election year & I’m encouraging all eligible Arizonans to vote & prioritize the issues that most affect our state & nation,” Ducey wrote on X. “I will be voting for Republicans up & down the ballot in November — and both Donald Trump and Kari Lake have my endorsement.”

“Differences aside, there is too much on the line and only a Republican in the White House and a majority in the House and US Senate can ensure it,” Ducey wrote in his 2024 backing.

In July Axios reported that NRSC informed its donors that the Arizona Senate race is currently “an absolute toss-up.” The NRSC, responsible for coordinating Senate GOP campaigns, expressed its concerns to its donors about potentially underestimating the competitiveness of the Arizona Senate race. In a memo shared last month obtained by Axios, the NRSC warned that polling which showed Lake trailing was “misleading.” According to their data, the race is a statistical dead heat.

Since her last election, Lake has refused to accept her 2022 defeat to Democrat Katie Hobbs in the Arizona governor’s race, mirroring the former president’s concerns with the 2020 presidential results against Joe Biden. Lake, a former news anchor, has leveraged her media savvy and charismatic presence to become a significant voice in Arizona politics, particularly during her run for governor in 2022.

Her campaign was marked by a firm commitment to conservative values, including stringent immigration policies and a strong opposition to the COVID-19 mandates. Her ability to resonate with the Trump base and her media expertise has made her a formidable player in shaping the party’s future direction. In the last two presidential elections, Arizona displayed shifting political dynamics.

In the 2016 election, Trump won Arizona by a moderately small margin, securing 48.7% of the vote compared to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s 45.1%. However, the 2020 election marked a significant shift when Joe Biden won Arizona with 49.4% of the vote, narrowly outpacing President Trump, who garnered 49.1%. The event also included parents whose children were victims of the fentanyl crisis, and Jade Gillon, a local resident and former Democratic voter. “How does that work? Make it make sense,” she asked. “During COVID, I knew more of my white guy friends that lost their jobs than me and my black girlfriends. We are the same in this country. All these Americans want the same thing.”

Jade’s speech culminated in a powerful call to action, urging a departure from fear-based politics and a return to principles she believes were better upheld during former President Trump’s presidency. “So let’s move past this. Let’s vote for Donald Trump so we can all be prosperous again. Let’s get out of this fear, this rage, and this anger, because it comes from the devil.”

The campaign for Arizona’s Republican Senate nominee Kari Lake released a hard-hitting ad focusing on the border policies of the Biden-Harris Administration, all of which have been supported by her opponent, U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ).

The ad, titled “Ruben and Kamala: Bad For America” is part of a joint $10 million ad buy with the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), Lake’s campaign announced in an email.

The Lake Campaign’s latest attack ad begins by pointing to the fact that Gallego has voted with “Joe and Border Czar Kamala” 100 percent of the time. “Including their radical border agenda,” a narrator continues.

It then cuts to a clip of then-candidate Harris saying “we’re not going to treat people who cross the border as criminals.” The vice president has in the past called for the decriminalization of illegal border crossings into the United States.

The ad follows up Harris’ quote with one from Gallego in which he stated that Congress will not support a border wall that is “not needed.”

“Ruben Gallego and Kamala Harris; bad for the border, bad for Arizona, and bad for America,” the narrator concludes.

In a statement following the ad release, the newly-minted Republican nominee again took aim at both Gallego and Harris.

“Radical Ruben Gallego has a long record of supporting open-borders policies and voting against efforts to secure our border,” Lake said.

“He supported Joe Biden and his border czar Kamala Harris as they created this national security & humanitarian crisis. Ruben and Kamala are bad for the border, bad for Arizona and bad for America,” she added.

The new Lake Campaign ad follows a trend of Republican Senate candidates tying their opponents to Harris’ failed border policies. I’m Pennsylvania, Dave McCormick has blanketed the airwaves with ads tying Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) to the Biden-Harris Administration’s record on inflation, energy police and illegal immigration, among other things.

Immigration in particular projects to be one of the most important issues for voters in November, as evidenced by months of polling trends. A recent survey conducted by the pro immigration Chicago Council of Global Affairs found that more than half of Americans view mass migration as a “critical threat.

Lake defeated Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb in a race that was called not long after polls closed at 7 p.m. West Coast time.

Lake — who narrowly lost to current Governor Katie Hobbs in a 2022 gubernatorial election that was plagued by voting machine “errors” in Maricopa County — had long polled as a favorite over Lamb. One poll from the Phoenix-based research firm Noble Predictive Insights (NPI), which was conducted a week before the election, showed Lake leading by double digits among likely Republican voters. “Lake is, though, sitting at the coveted 50 percent threshold if the election were held today, and Lamb only at 38 percent,” NPI CEO Mike Noble told KTAR News 92.3 FM after the survey’s findings were released on Monday morning.

Lamb appears to have done better among early voters, as Lake’s lead among those who had already cast their ballots was just six points in the NPI poll. She found herself in the lead with 56 percent of the vote to 45 percent for Lamb among those who had not yet to cast their ballots, however.

With the Republican nomination now secured, Lake will be facing off against U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) in the November general election. Gallego was the only Democrat running in the race. The seat is currently held by Senator Kyrsten Sinema, who was elected as a Democrat before switching her party affiliation to independent.

Sinema announced that she will not be seeking re-election earlier this year.

If elected, Gallego has stated that he will work to get rid of the filibuster in the Senate and has endorsed court packing. He has also endorsed a number of amnesty initiatives for illegal aliens, has suggested that illegal aliens should have the right to vote, and has opposed a number of border security initiatives.

A third candidate, Elizabeth Rye, was polling at just three percent. An additional nine percent of voters remain undecided.

Lake’s lead was not as wide when adjusting for early voting, as the former gubernatorial nominee’s lead over Lamb drops to just six percentage points among those who have already voted. She leads 56 percent to 45 percent among those who have yet to cast their ballots, however.

Lake’s lead is especially high among voters who have a favorable opinion of former President Donald Trump. Among these voters, lead holds a 21-point lead over Lamb.

Lamb has picked up ground since May, when NPI polling showed Lake leading with 46 percent to Lamb’s 21 percent, though it appears as though he will struggle to be able to close the gap completely.

The eventual Republican nominee will be facing off against U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) in November, the only Democrat running in the race. The seat is currently held by Senator Kyrsten Sinema, who was elected as a Democrat before switching her party affiliation to independent.

Sinema announced that she will not be seeking re-election earlier this year.

While Gallego has enjoyed a lead in a hypothetical match-up with Lake, the Trump-endorsed candidate appears to be gaining ground. Gallego currently enjoys just a 3.4 percent lead in the RealClearPolitics polling average as of this report.

Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake pointed to members of the media and told them they were not welcome at the Republican National Convention during her address on Tuesday evening.

“Welcome, everybody who’s watching at home and welcome everybody in this great arena tonight. We love you all. Actually, actually, wait a minute… I don’t mean that. I don’t welcome everybody in this meeting, in this room,” Lake said while pointing to the press gallery. “The guys up in the fake news have worn out your welcome. You’ve worn it out guys.

The press was immediately greeted with boos and taunts, causing Lake to briefly pause.

“You have spent the last eight years lying about President Donald Trump and his amazing patriotic supporters. Actually, guys, they lie about everything. They’ve lied about Joe Biden’s health, the economy, the laptop, the border. I could go on and on and on. But the really good news is that every day more and more people are turning off the fake news,” she continued. 

Lake’s criticism of the mainstream media appeared to anger veteran pollster Frank Luntz, who took to X to complain. “I’m on the media platform as she is attacking the media. Convention goers are yelling at the people around me – it’s a really strange experience,” he wrote.

Elsewhere in her speech, Lake drew some of the loudest cheers of the early part of the Republican National Convention’s second night.

“The problems we face are huge. The problems caused by the Democrat party, but the solutions guys, they’re really simple. First of all, stop the Biden invasion and build the wall. Easy,” she said. Lake again briefly paused her speech while the crowd erupted into chants of “build that wall!”

“And while we’re building the wall, let’s kick Bidenomics to the curb and bring back the MAGAnomics. Is that okay?” the senate hopeful continued. “I miss the strong Trump economy. And because I’m a mama bear, I want to replace this indoctrination, this psychological abuse they’re inflicting on our children with a real solid quality education. It’s all common sense. The great news is that we can solve these problems and to be honest we must solve these problems for the sake of our children because that’s really what this is all about, right?”

Lake was one of several Republican Senate candidates to speak on Tuesday evening. The crowd also heard from Dave McCormick of Pennsylvania, Sam Brown of Nevada, and Bernie Moreno of Ohio, among others.

Republicans will be hoping to take advantage of a favorable Senate map in November, when Democrats will be defending more than 10 seats.

New polling in Arizona’s hotly contested U.S. Senate race is showing a path to victory for firebrand conservative Kari Lake after she remained mired on the losing side of the numbers for months.

Lake, who ran for governor in 2022 with President Trump’s endorsement, now leads her likely Democratic rival, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) by two percent, according to an analysis conducted by The Hill. As the outlet notes, early polling gave a leg up to Gallego, but Lake for months has been hammering home the message that the uncontrollable flood of migrants across the state’s southern border is the result of his enabling of President Biden’s immigration policies. The state went for President Trump by 3.5% in 2016 and was narrowly carried by President Joe Biden by 0.3% four years later.

Fundamental factors like partisan lean and incumbency are factored into the results, both of which add up to now show that Arizonians are so fed up with migration and high costs of living that Rep. Gallego is not benefitting from his congressional incumbency. In February, Lake launched her campaign and consistently remained about 5% behind Gallego in poll after poll, though his edge has narrowed to a razor-thin margin in the past few weeks. The last poll, conducted just days after President Biden’s disastrous debate, showed the two tied at 47% apiece.

Observers believe Lake is walking a fine line between remaining true to her MAGA roots while modulating her message to better fit the 2024 electorate. After losing the 2022 campaign to then-candidate and now-Governor Katie Hobbs, Lake launched a flurry of legal challenges seeking a recount, all of which were dismissed. Recently, she took heat for suggesting that Arizonans “strap on a Glock” ahead of November’s elections, a remark that was denounced by U.S. Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ), the husband of former congresswoman Gabby Giffords who was nearly killed after being shot in the head by a deranged gunman in 2010.

These days, Lake can be heard making the rounds with appeals to bread-and-butter issues — Washington dysfunction, runaway inflation, and the need for more housing in the southwest. She has received a slew of high-profile endorsements to help her through the Republican primary on July 30th, including nods from 23 of the U.S. Senate’s 49 Republicans. In April, President Trump hosted Lake at Mar-a-Lago where she broke the club’s fundraising record for a non-incumbent, raising more than $1 million.

Lake’s event comes on the heels of a separate Washington, D.C.-area fundraiser set up for Lake by the Republican National Committee which netted the spitfire conservative another $350,000, according to POLITICO, after she secured the endorsement of GOP Senate fundraising chief Steve Daines.

Lake also made national news late last year when it was revealed that the former chair of the Arizona GOP tried to urge her into dropping out, saying that “folks out East” would scratch her back if she cleared the way for a more moderate candidate. She refused, later telling Glenn Beck that she told then-chair Jeff DeWitt she was disgusted and celebrated his resignation following the botched strongarming.
