The debate came after DSA-aligned candidates swept multiple primary elections in New York and Colorado, defeating established Democratic incumbents with heavy Gen Z support.

Watters pressed White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on whether Gen Z’s socialist turn was driven by entitlement or something deeper. Leavitt, herself a millennial, didn’t mince words.

“Unfortunately, I do, because this generation—my generation, I hate to say it—Gen Z and those younger than me, have been raised with just silver spoons in their mouths, just getting everything handed to them,” Leavitt said. “That’s not the values this country was built on. It was built on meritocracy and hard work, pulling up your sleeves, pulling yourself up from your bootstraps, and achieving the American dream.”

When Watters asked directly if it was laziness, Leavitt replied, “A little bit.”

But she also pointed to another culprit: “It’s laziness and it’s the liberal indoctrination. You bring up a great point about our education system.”

Watters suggested university professors were feeding students a narrative that America is “corrupt” and “evil” and needs to be shaken down for handouts.

The exchange drew fire from Nalin Haley, son of former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and himself a 24-year-old member of Gen Z.

“Ironically, calling an entire generation lazy instead of addressing real problems with cost of living, housing, and employment…IS LAZY,” Haley posted to X Friday. “It’s tough even for people that work hard, save, and have good jobs. The goal of every generation is to leave it better than you found it. That’s simply not happening.”

Haley went further, slamming both parties as “controlled by elites and corporate interests” and arguing that neither Democrats nor Republicans are addressing the economic squeeze facing young Americans.

The data backs up some of Gen Z’s economic frustration. The Department of the Treasury reported in December 2024 that costs for housing, childcare, healthcare, and education have outpaced wage growth since 1990, while non-housing debt nearly doubled from 1989 to 2022. Many Gen Z adults still live with their parents.

Under the Biden administration, inflation hit four-decade highs, with prices rising over 20% and the Consumer Price Index peaking at 9% in June 2022. Experts attributed the surge to Biden’s hostility toward fossil fuel production and massive federal spending.

Unemployment for Gen Z also runs higher than the national average. Those aged 16-19 face a 14.6% unemployment rate, while those 20-24 hit 7.1%—compared to the overall rate of 4.2%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

When the first Gen Z members were born in 1997, the national debt stood at $5.7 trillion. As of Thursday, it sits at $39.375 trillion—a nearly 591% increase.

Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012, grew up with smartphones and social media and was particularly affected by COVID-19 lockdowns, which left significant learning gaps due to remote schooling replacing in-person instruction.

Jesse Watters has struck again, this time turning the spotlight on Vice President Kamala Harris’ long-touted narrative of growing up in the “rough and tumble” streets of Oakland. But Watters claims there’s just one problem—she didn’t grow up in Oakland at all.

On his prime-time Fox News show, Watters unveiled Harris’ birth certificate to reveal what he called the “real truth” about where the Vice President spent her formative years. According to Watters, Harris was born in Berkeley, not Oakland, which he says is a far cry from the gritty, working-class upbringing she’s often portrayed.

“Kamala Harris wants you to believe she’s a product of Oakland’s hard streets,” Watters said, showing a copy of Harris’ birth certificate. “But in reality, she was born and raised in the People’s Republic of Berkeley—yes, Berkeley, the most insanely liberal precinct in America.”

Watters went on to describe Berkeley as “Berserkly,” the epicenter of radical leftist movements, where Harris grew up just a stone’s throw away from the University of California campus. “Her birth certificate lists an apartment right next to Berkeley’s campus, a half block south of People’s Park,” Watters continued. “This is ground zero for every single radical protest movement in the country.”

The Fox News host didn’t stop there. He pointed out that Harris attended Berkeley public schools and was even bused to schools within the city, a far cry from the urban struggles of Oakland that she’s used as a political talking point. Watters mocked Harris’ famous debate line, “That little girl was me,” suggesting that the Vice President has crafted a misleading story about her upbringing. “If you lie about where you grew up—about something that’s at the very core of who you are—how can people trust anything you say?” Watters questioned.

She was indeed born in an Oakland hospital in 1964, but she did not settle in the city until she was in her 20s and working as a prosecutor in the county district attorney’s office.

Her birth certificate lists an apartment building near the University of California, Berkeley campus, where her parents were pursuing Ph.D.s. It sat just a half-block south of People’s Park, the campus land taken over by activists in 1969, just a few years after the Harris family moved out of the building.

When Ms. Harris was a toddler, her family moved to the Midwest where her father, Donald Harris, taught briefly at universities in Illinois and Wisconsin. After her parents split up, Ms. Harris returned to Berkeley when she was 5, with her mother, Shyamala Gopalan Harris, and her sister, Maya, and eventually settled into the little yellow house in the “flatlands,” then a working-class part of the city with a large population of Black families.

Ms. Harris’s mother was steeped in the social activism vibrant in both Berkeley and Oakland. Ms. Harris attended Berkeley public schools and was bused to Thousand Oaks Elementary School in a more upscale neighborhood in the hills of north Berkeley as part of a voluntary program to integrate schools.

Harris has often referenced her upbringing as a key part of her political identity, describing herself as a child of the civil rights movement who grew up with a strong sense of justice. However, the timing couldn’t be worse for Harris, as she faces mounting scrutiny in the lead-up to the 2024 election.

U.S. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) on Friday announced a stunning new probe into Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s connections to the Chinese communist government, pulling on a thread that threatens to unravel his image as a homey former teacher inculcating his students with lessons about global harmony.

Previously, reporters have examined Walz’s record as a high school teacher who relied on funds from the Chinese government to sponsor overseas trips where his students would learn about Chinese culture and come home with renewed hopes of a future where America and its future foe would peacefully coexist. Instead, according to Congressman Comer, Walz’s connections in the communist country are much deeper and more nefarious than a first glance may indicate. On X, the committee announced it has begun an investigation into his position at a Chinese institution “that maintains deep a devotion to the [Chinese Community Party]” and “spoke alongside the President of a Chinese organization the State Department exposed as a CCP effort to influence and co-opt local leaders.”

Agents within the FBI have also informed the Oversight Committee that it is actively investigating these seemingly innocuous travel sponsorships to China which they claim harbor intentions of cultivating anti-American sentiment and a fondness for China’s way of life. The Bureau’s Foreign Influence Task Force, it writes, is actively investigating CCP activity “that is similar to China’s engagement with Governor Walz.”

“In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, Chairman Comer is now requesting information, documents, and communications related to the CCP-connected entities and officials Governor Walz has engaged and partnered with,” the statement concludes.

Liberal Fox News host Jessica Tarlov got smacked down by her colleagues on “The Five” after suggesting that Republicans are mischaracterizing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s resignation from the Army shortly before his battalion deployed for Iraq so he could run for Congress.

On Wednesday night Tarlov spoke in opposition to a press conference from Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) after he criticized Walz’s military record at a campaign event in Michigan. At the event, the Ohio Republican claimed Walz abandoned his unit. “What really bothers me about Tim Walz, as a Marine who served his country in uniform, when the United States Marine Corps, when the United States of America asked me to go to Iraq to serve my country, I did it. I did it when they asked me to do it and I did it honorably, and I’m very proud of that service,” he stated during an appearance in Shelby Township. “When Tim Walz was asked by his country to go to Iraq, you know what he did? He dropped out of the Army and allowed his unit to go without him, a fact that he’s been criticized for aggressively by a lot of the people that he served with.” Retired military service members who knew Walz at the time made similar claims in a letter that resurfaced earlier this week.

That didn’t sit well with Tarlov, who asserted that Walz served “honorably” and pivoted to attacking former President Donald Trump for claiming that bone spurs in his feet prevented him from entering the draft during the Vietnam War. “So obviously, this was going to come up because the Trump campaign manager was the one behind the John Kerry Swift Boat attack, which was obviously very persuasive to people,” said Tarlov, according to Raw Story. “He served for 24 years, honorably, then he stopped to run for Congress on a platform of ending the war, and I don’t think that anyone, especially with Donald Trump at the top of a ticket, he dodged the draft four or five times, bone spurs, Captain Bone Spurs.”

Co-host Greg Gutfeld shot back, “Bone spurs are a very serious issue, Jessica.” She continued her rant, getting out, “[Trump] said that people who had gotten captured, ‘suckers and losers,’” before others began to talk over her. “He denied he slept with Stormy Daniels but that obviously hasn’t worked out for him. I don’t think you should ever say anyone who served didn’t do a good job in this. If J.D. Vance wants to get into that tit-for-tat, he was in the public affairs department. Speaking very broadly there,” he rebutted. Tarlov responded that Republicans are doing a disservice to themselves when referring to the vice president as a “diversity hire,” a warning that U.S. House Republicans have also given their colleagues as they urged lawmakers to focus on her track record rather than her race.

“If you have one of the highest achieving black women in the country who’s now made it to the vice presidency, and Republicans and people who talk about her on-air say she’s a diversity hire, she only got where she was going because she slept with Willie Brown,” she responded. Watters and fellow host Greg Gutfeld both cut in. “She did!? I didn’t know that!” Watters simultaneously asked, “She slept with Willie Brown!?” Tarlov responded, “Is that not true?” Watters then followed up, “I didn’t know that. President Donald Trump has opened up about a call he received from President Joe Biden shortly after he was nearly killed in an assassination attempt on July 13.

During a joint sit down with his vice presidential pick, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), Trump retold the conversation he had with Biden after turning his head during a rally and narrowly avoiding a round from an AR-15 rifle.
