The hosts of ‘The View’ unleashed an eyebrow-raising theory about President-elect Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and JD Vance—one that sounded more like the plot of a bad political thriller than a daytime talk show segment. During Thursday’s episode on ABC, Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar took turns speculating on an outlandish scenario where Musk and Vance are allegedly plotting to “get rid of Trump” and seize control of the government for themselves. The supposed alliance was jokingly referred to as “Musk/Vance.”

“Who is in charge? Because I’ve been saying it for a while. I’ve been saying it,” Goldberg rambled as she launched into her monologue. “I think Elon Musk believes he’s president. I do. I’ve called him vice president. I called him president because I don’t know what JD is doing. I hardly ever say, I don’t remember the last time we even talked about JD.”

Not to be outdone, Behar jumped in with her own tinfoil-hat take: “He’s planning the presidency when he’s gonna get rid of Trump.”

Whoopi, apparently intrigued, asked Behar, “So you think it’s Musk, Musk/Vance?”

Behar’s deadpan response: “Possible.”

It didn’t stop there. In what could only be described as a surreal moment of daytime TV, Goldberg sent an ominous warning: “Stay away from the stairways.” Goldberg continued, “Because, you know, people put their leg out to trip you going down the stairs. Watch out.”

Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, and Vance, Trump’s Vice President-elect, have emerged as frequent targets of the show’s liberal panel. However, the leap to a Musk-Vance conspiracy against Trump seems far-fetched, to say the least. Goldberg and Behar, both no strangers to controversy, have previously lobbed wild accusations at conservatives. After a commercial break, Goldberg backpedaled on her earlier comments, attempting to downplay the insinuation of violence.

“Okay, I need to clean something up,” Whoopi said as the show returned. “Because my cat lays in wait for me on my stairs all the time. And that’s what I was, I was thinking of that. I wasn’t trying to indicate that they were actually standing there with their legs out, hoping he would trip.”

Behar nodded, and co-host Sunny Hostin chimed in, “No one wants anything done to the President.” Goldberg added emphatically, “No, nobody wants anything done to the person. It was lighthearted, and it’s the holidays—come on!”

The panel awkwardly tried to move past the incident, with Goldberg quipping about the hazards of hosting such a controversial show.

Over the past 24 hours, Musk has been on a digital rampage against Johnson’s stopgap spending measure, one that conservatives have decried as a pork-laden appeasement effort to garner Democratic votes in the face of Republican obstructionism. “This bill should not pass,” Musk declared in a post on X Tuesday. He has since upped the ante on members of Congress, warning them to watch their right flanks if they don’t join President-elect Trump in seeking to kill the bill. For his effort, Musk should be rewarded, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) declared one day later.

“I’d be open to supporting @elonmusk for Speaker of the House,” she suggested in her own post responding to one by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY). “DOGE can only truly be accomplished by reigning in Congress to enact real government efficiency. The establishment needs to be shattered just like it was yesterday. This could be the way.” Her comments came after Paul noted that the Constitution does not require the House speaker to be a member of Congress. “Nothing would disrupt the swamp more than electing Elon Musk . . . think about it . . . nothing’s impossible. (not to mention the joy at seeing the collective establishment, aka ‘uniparty,’ lose their ever-lovin’ minds,” he wrote.

President-elect Trump weighed in on Truth Social in a statement Wednesday where he demanded Republicans hold firm and pass a “streamlined funding bill” that doesn’t give concessions away to Democrats to secure their votes. “Republicans must GET SMART and TOUGH. If Democrats threaten to shut down the government unless we give them everything they want, then CALL THEIR BLUFF. It is Schumer and [President Joe] Biden who are holding up aid to our farmers and disaster relief,” Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance said in a joint statement. He followed up on those remarks with an appearance on Fox News Thursday morning, where he promised to support Johnson as the speaker if he “acts decisively” to end the impasse on conservative terms.

“Anybody that supports a bill that doesn’t take care of the Democrat quicksand known as the debt ceiling should be primaried and disposed of as quickly as possible,” Trump told Fox News Digital. “If the speaker acts decisively, and tough, and gets rid of all of the traps being set by the Democrats, which will economically and, in other ways, destroy our country, he will easily remain speaker.”
