The details surrounding the emergency spending bill are expected to be delayed and may “slip by a day” as the deadline to avoid a government shutdown looms.

Lawmarkers were expected to share the text of the emergency spending bill to avoid a government shutdown and address disaster relief on Sunday, but Fox News is told the text “may slip by a day.”

It comes as both House and Senate lawmakers negotiate over how large the disaster aid package should be, and whether it should be attached to an end-of-year federal funding bill that’s critical to avoiding a partial government shutdown during the holiday season.

This could pose a problem because government funding expires at 11:59:59 p.m. on Friday. Pushing this back means the House may not be able to process the bill until the end of the week.

It is also noted that it doesn’t take much for the Senate to slow things down if senators demand time.

The House has a so-called “three-day rule” which requires text to be posted for three days before debate and vote. However, waiting until tomorrow means the House may not consider the bill until Thursday or Friday – the peak of the deadline.

Fox News is told there are no hold-ups with government funding, through mid-March, or the disaster package for Hurricanes Helene, Milton, wildfires in Maui, the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore and tornadoes in the Midwest, but that there is an issue with agricultural provisions “and other things important to leaders on both sides.”

“Congress should not pass a whopping $100 billion unpaid disaster supplemental funding bill — that Democrats will use to cement their own unrelated priorities — in the waning days of Democrat control in Washington right before Republicans take control of the White House and both Chambers,” the House Freedom Caucus statement read.

“The House should consider only what is absolutely necessary right now to provide critical relief to hurricane victims and farmers, and pay for it with offsets from wasteful spending elsewhere in the government, then wait for President Trump to take office to better manage disaster relief.”

If new spending is not approved by way of appropriations bills or a stopgap measure, a partial government shutdown could happen before Christmas.

            The event — which was the latest show of Republican dominance that will steer America on a vastly different path within a few weeks — brought together the president-elect, Vice President-elect JD Vance, House Speaker Mike Johnson and incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune.

            With Hegseth on hand, Trump made a firm statement about his desire to see his embattled pick confirmed after the former Fox News anchor rode out an initial storm over alleged transgressions in his past that he has denied. Tulsi Gabbard, whom Trump has chosen for director of national intelligence, also stood close to Trump — in a sign he doesn’t care about reservations that some Republican senators harbor about her attitude toward Russia and Syria.

            It was perhaps the most visible showing of power football hosted in the Washington area since late Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke corralled the politically connected, rich and famous in his box at RFK stadium in the 1980s and 1990s. When Trump, Vance and the congressional leaders — as well as the ubiquitous Elon Musk — peered over the loudly welcoming crowd and waved, the country’s new establishment looked almost like a politburo of the MAGA movement.

            There was, however, no sighting of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s pick to run the Health and Human Services Department. His past skepticism of child vaccines that have saved millions of American lives could make him the next Trump Cabinet selection to face a political storm on Capitol Hill, with meetings expected with senators this week.

            The attendance of Republican congressional leaders was significant. Johnson, who hitched his wagon to Trump early in his tenure, has been rewarded with the president-elect’s patronage but faces a tough job in shepherding the new administration’s hardline agenda through a tiny House majority. And Thune may have one of the hardest jobs in Washington in piloting controversial nominees through the Senate and preserving the chamber’s, albeit rather eroded, prerogative to check likely power grabs by a new president who knows no limits.

            Musk hovered just over Trump’s shoulder, personifying the extraordinary entry into the president-elect’s inner circle of the world’s richest man and one of its most influential sources of non-state power. So far, Trump has had only one major reversal — the loss of his first attorney general pick, Matt Gaetz, and has been effectively taking control of future US foreign policy by initiating trade showdowns with Mexico and Canada, meeting world leaders and striding back onto the world stage with a trip to Paris.

            Trump’s controversial Cabinet choices are a show of defiance against a political establishment he believes thwarted his most aggressive instincts during his first term. And his refusal to abandon Hegseth – and support for Gabbard, Kennedy Jr. and FBI critic Kash Patel to lead the bureau – is an uncompromising omen about the administration that will begin next month.

Mitt Romney, a longtime Trump critic, told CNN’s Jake Tapper in an interview that aired on “State of the Union” on Sunday. “This is a team of people who are very, very different, extraordinarily different backgrounds, different perspectives on issues, in some cases, I think even than the president, so an unusual collection of individuals, not the people I would have chosen,” the Utah Republican said.

            As Washington gears up for contentious confirmation hearings in January, Romney warned that the Senate has a responsibility to ensure that there is no “skeleton” haunting Cabinet picks that could embarrass the country. The Iraq and Afghanistan war veteran is pledging to shake up race and gender diversity programs in the Pentagon if confirmed. Graham said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that anyone who had a complaint to make should “come forward.” Hegseth’s lawyer, Tim Parlatore, told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins this month that anyone who did make allegations against his client “would do it at her own peril of a further defamation lawsuit.” CNN has reached out to Trump’s transition team for comment.

            But attention is turning to Trump’s other picks, and Kennedy is facing a new flare-up over his past vaccine skepticism. Outgoing Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell warned Friday that anyone seeking Senate confirmation should avoid “appearance of association with” efforts to discredit proven medical cures. The statement, which did not mention Kennedy by name, was especially poignant since the Kentucky senator suffered from polio as a child and still lives with complications — a fact that was widely noted after he suffered a fall last week.

            McConnell’s warning was not an empty threat. It would take only four Republicans to block Kennedy’s nomination, assuming all Democrats oppose, and the long-time leader’s stature and personal story might offer other senators cover. Kennedy’s past attacks on some vaccines are also coming into focus after The New York Times reported that one of his associates, lawyer Aaron Siri, filed a petition with the US Food and Drug Administration to revoke approval of the polio vaccine used in the United States. Siri made the petition on behalf of the Informed Consent Action Network, or ICAN, a nonprofit that challenges the safety of vaccines and vaccine mandates. He has been working with Kennedy to choose officials to serve in the incoming administration. CNN has reached out to ICAN and the Trump transition.

            Trump praised the polio vaccine in a “Meet the Press” interview on NBC last week as “the greatest thing” and said someone would have to work very hard to get him to revoke it. But the president-elect also said in a Time magazine interview conducted in late November and published last week that he’d hold a “big discussion” about the rising rate of autism diagnoses and would consider getting rid of some vaccines for children. Scientists have repeatedly debunked the theory that vaccines cause autism. But despite that evidence, many anti-vaccine advocates have called for greater research into the subject.

            In a letter to the Senate on Sunday, a group boosting Kennedy touted his support from hundreds of doctors. “His unwavering commitment to scientific transparency and his determination to address the root causes of illness make him uniquely qualified to lead HHS,” read the letter, which was released by Make American Healthy Again Action and was signed by the likes of Dr. Mehmet Oz, Trump’s pick to lead the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

            The Kennedy selection reflects Trump’s fondness for contrarianism, and willingness to mock the consensus of the Washington health and political establishments. It fits into a pattern of elevating well-known skeptics of Covid-19 guidelines during the pandemic to senior administration posts.

            But the growing controversy around Kennedy leaves open the question of whether Trump will fight as hard for the former Democrat as he did for Hegseth. The spectacle of a confirmation hearing next year that devolves into a showdown over polio vaccines could have the potential to change the trajectory of the nomination.

            There are also questions over whether Kennedy’s campaign to take on US food giants over unhealthy processed products could weaken his support among some senators whose states depend on the multi-billion-dollar industry. Trump’s team has already been strategizing about how to allay GOP fears about Kennedy’s past support for abortion rights, which could scramble his support in unpredictable ways. With this in mind, Kennedy’s selection could turn into a test case of one of the most important factors that will define Trump’s new administration — how willing is the new president to spend his personal political capital on fights or nominees that may not be popular?

            Kennedy will follow in the footsteps of Gabbard and Patel on Capitol Hill, who both got fairly smooth public receptions. Republican senators seem in no hurry to split with their president-elect over Cabinet picks in the knowledge that Trump intends to shake up Washington as never before.

            Missouri GOP Sen. Eric Schmitt, for instance, called Gabbard “a patriot” on ABC News’ “This Week” on Sunday. “She served our country honorably. She, I think, fits the reform agenda. President Trump ran on disrupting permanent Washington and having people who are going to view things differently,” he added.

            Graham, meanwhile, signaled support for Patel, despite the former Capitol Hill staffer’s past vows to purge the FBI and to go after Trump’s political opponents and journalists. “What do I want in an FBI director now? Somebody that can clean it up,” Graham said on “Meet the Press.” He added: “Get back to the job of fighting crime. Don’t have your thumb on the political scale.”

            Still, Patel’s critics fear that in the guise of draining the bureau of political influence, he will further weaponize it to express his loyalty to Trump. California Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff said on ABC that Patel was “someone who demonstrated, sadly, a principle of the first Trump administration, and that is you rise to the level of your sycophancy. And the bigger the sycophant, the higher you rise.”

            Schiff also criticized Gabbard over her echoing of Russian propaganda over the war in Ukraine, her 2017 visit to deposed Syrian tyrant Bashar al-Assad, and her lack of experience in the intelligence community. “Someone who had shown that kind of poor judgment is not necessarily someone you want advising this president.”

            Schiff’s comment reflected two coming themes in Washington — the first is the extent to which Democrats will try to rebound after a disastrous election by portraying Trump’s Cabinet picks as extreme, dangerous and unqualified.

            But secondly, it will be up to Republicans to decide who gets to serve and, more broadly, much of what gets done in Washington – for at least the next two years heading into the midterms. That was the message that Trump and his cohorts spelled out high above the field in Landover, Maryland, as Navy surged to a 31-13 victory over Army to lift the commander in chief’s trophy.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz ignored multiple reporters who asked what he meant when he said he has “become friends with school shooters” during Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate.

The bizarre remark came during a question on the topic of gun violence. J.D. Vance argued in favor of revamping safety measures and increasing security around schools, while Walz suggested that gun confiscation would be necessary to stop school shootings. He failed to mention which weapons would be prohibited under his plan, however.

At one point during the exchange, Walz delivered one of the most bizarre lines ever uttered in the history of presidential debates. “I sat in that office with those Sandy Hook parents. I’ve become friends with school shooters. I’ve seen it,” he said.

CAST YOUR VOTE: Should Voter ID Be Mandatory In The 2024 Election?

!function(r,u,m,b,l,e){r._Rumble=b,r[b]||(r[b]=function(){(r[b]._=r[b]._||[]).push(arguments);if(r[b]._.length==1){l=u.createElement(m),e=u.getElementsByTagName(m)[0],l.async=1,l.src=”https://rumble.com/embedJS/u9lmzn”+(arguments[1].video?’.’+arguments[1].video:”)+”/?url=”+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+”&args=”+encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify([].slice.apply(arguments))),e.parentNode.insertBefore(l,e)}})}(window, document, “script”, “Rumble”);

The remark emerged as one of the most viral moments of the debate, leaving pundits and viewers alike baffled “’I’ve become friends with school shooters’ may be the worst line in any 2024 debate,” said veteran political pollster Frank Luntz.

Former President Donald Trump also weighed in on the puzzling answer in a Truth Social post. “Second time he has said, ‘I’ve been friends with school shooters.’ What does he mean by this? Is he insane?” the former president wrote.

In a follow-up post, the Republican nominee posted an image of a Trump-Vance campaign sign complete with the slogan, “NOT FRIENDS WITH SCHOOL SHOOTERS.”

After the Minnesota governor and his wife left the spin-room and headed to a New York pizza parlor, a handful of reporters asked him for his thoughts on the debate.

“Governor, what do you think your strongest moment was tonight?” asked one reporter.

“Oh, I don’t know. I think it was a good debate. The public got to see a contrast. And I think the ending sums it up, the democracy issue is important,” Walz replied.

Another reporter then asked him to explain what he meant by saying he had “become friends with” school shooters. “Governor, you said you’d become friends with school shooters during the debate. Can you clarify what you meant on that?” the reporter asked.

While he clearly heard the question, Walz refused to turn around or answer the question.

“Can you clarify what you meant when you said you’d be friends with school shooters?” shouted another reporter, once again failing to get an answer from the Democratic Party nominee.

!function(r,u,m,b,l,e){r._Rumble=b,r[b]||(r[b]=function(){(r[b]._=r[b]._||[]).push(arguments);if(r[b]._.length==1){l=u.createElement(m),e=u.getElementsByTagName(m)[0],l.async=1,l.src=”https://rumble.com/embedJS/u9lmzn”+(arguments[1].video?’.’+arguments[1].video:”)+”/?url=”+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+”&args=”+encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify([].slice.apply(arguments))),e.parentNode.insertBefore(l,e)}})}(window, document, “script”, “Rumble”);

In addition to the school shooters gaffe, Walz was tripped up when confronted over inconsistencies surrounding his frequent trips to China.

CNN reported that Walz had previously claimed to have been in the country during the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989. The claim was found to be completely untrue, as Walz was in Nebraska at the time.

When confronted over the lie, Walz attempted to deflect by telling a story about his passion for travel and education. The moderators refused to let him off the hook, however, leading to an incoherent follow-up from Walz.

“All I said on this was I got there that summer and misspoke on this. So I will just, that’s what I’ve said,” Walz replied with a stammer.

“So I was in Hong Kong and China during the democracy protest went in,” he continued after an awkward moment of silence.

!function(r,u,m,b,l,e){r._Rumble=b,r[b]||(r[b]=function(){(r[b]._=r[b]._||[]).push(arguments);if(r[b]._.length==1){l=u.createElement(m),e=u.getElementsByTagName(m)[0],l.async=1,l.src=”https://rumble.com/embedJS/u9lmzn”+(arguments[1].video?’.’+arguments[1].video:”)+”/?url=”+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+”&args=”+encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify([].slice.apply(arguments))),e.parentNode.insertBefore(l,e)}})}(window, document, “script”, “Rumble”);

CNN contributors Dana Bash, Jake Tapper and Abby Phillip — all of whom have expressed anti-Trump views in the past — unanimously agreed that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was thoroughly outmatched in Tuesday’s debate with his Republican challenger, J.D. Vance.

“I think we shouldn’t lose track, I think even in the civility of the fact that J.D. Vance came to this debate to land a bunch of punches, and he did. He landed a lot of punches in between all the niceties and all of that,” Phillip said.

She further speculated that Walz was woefully underprepared for the debate. CNN had previously reported that Walz was very nervous about facing off against a “lawyer type” like J.D. Vance and was extremely worried about letting Vice President Harris down.

CAST YOUR VOTE: Should Voter ID Be Mandatory In The 2024 Election?

The network spoke with several senior campaign aides and close associates of Walz before releasing the report.

!function(r,u,m,b,l,e){r._Rumble=b,r[b]||(r[b]=function(){(r[b]._=r[b]._||[]).push(arguments);if(r[b]._.length==1){l=u.createElement(m),e=u.getElementsByTagName(m)[0],l.async=1,l.src=”https://rumble.com/embedJS/u9lmzn”+(arguments[1].video?’.’+arguments[1].video:”)+”/?url=”+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+”&args=”+encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify([].slice.apply(arguments))),e.parentNode.insertBefore(l,e)}})}(window, document, “script”, “Rumble”);

“I think that there was a clear lack of preparation and execution here on Walz’s part,” Phillip continued.

“I think actually it’s the opposite. I think he had too much preparation,” co-panelist Dana Bash followed up. “He had so many lines that he was clearly trying to say, that he didn’t listen. And when J.D. Vance said one of the many, many things he really hit Kamala Harris on, not Tim Walz, but Kamala Harris, he didn’t respond because he clearly had things in his mind.”

Bash, who conducted one of the only interviews Walz has agreed to this campaign cycle, speculated that the campaign’s historic lack of media availability hindered the Minnesota governor.

“I think the lack of interviews that he has done with national media, with local media, it showed he needed more reps,” she continued.

Tapper was in agreement with the rest of the panel, saying “J.D. Vance is much more experienced at this, at public speaking, at defending himself, at pivoting.”

!function(r,u,m,b,l,e){r._Rumble=b,r[b]||(r[b]=function(){(r[b]._=r[b]._||[]).push(arguments);if(r[b]._.length==1){l=u.createElement(m),e=u.getElementsByTagName(m)[0],l.async=1,l.src=”https://rumble.com/embedJS/u9lmzn”+(arguments[1].video?’.’+arguments[1].video:”)+”/?url=”+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+”&args=”+encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify([].slice.apply(arguments))),e.parentNode.insertBefore(l,e)}})}(window, document, “script”, “Rumble”);

The CNN panelists were far from the only left-wing pundits give Vance high marks for his debate performance.

Former CNN contributor and current News Nation host Chris Cuomo praised how Vance handled one-sided “fact checking” and biased questions from debate moderators Margaret Brennan and Norah O’Donnell.

“When they were talking at one point, Vance wanted to correct something about how Haitians got into this country, and he was right,” Cuomo said. “And the moderators wouldn’t let him correct it, very interesting.”

The puzzling response emerged as one of the most viral moments of the debate and drew several reactions.

“Second time he has said, ‘I’ve been friends with school shooters.’ What does he mean by this? Is he insane?” former President Donald Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

“Walz made a very big mistake on Gun Shooters. Does anyone think he knows what he said? Will he have a News Conference after the Debate to apologize to the parents and others who were so horribly hurt?” the former president added in a follow-up post.

Trump also posted a meme of a Trump-Vance 2024 campaign sign complete with the phrase, “NOT FRIENDS WITH SCHOOL SHOOTERS.”

“Tim Walz is winning the school shooter vote for sure!” said conservative commentator and activist Gavin Wax.

The Blaze contributor Jesse Kelly added, “I thought my friends were a little rough around the edges but Tim Walz just said he’s friends with school shooters.”

Others posted memes mocking what was one of the most bizarre statements ever uttered in a major party debate.

When it comes to stopping school shootings, Walz pointed to Finland as an example. “They don’t have this happen,” the Minnesota governor said. “Even though they have a high gun-ownership rate in the country, there are reasonable things that we can do to make a difference.”

He then hinted that gun confiscation is likely necessary, though he failed to mention which weapons would be banned.

Much like last month’s ABC News-hosted vice presidential debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate was plagued by incorrect and one-sided “fact checks” of Republican nominee J.D. Vance.

Much like ABC moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis, CBS moderators Margaret Brennan and Norah O’Donnell frequently interrupted Vance with “fact checks” that were often incorrect. They also asked Vance loaded questions while giving straightforward layups to Walz.

The issue was most pronounced on the topic of illegal immigration. Vance was asked about the separation of families at the southern border, an issue that has exploded under the Biden-Harris Administration. Since President Biden and Vice President Harris took office in January 2021, more than 7 million illegal aliens have flooded across both the southern and northern borders. The United States set illegal immigration records in both 2022 and 2023, while illegal border crossings remain well above Trump Administration levels in 2024.

(FREE RED HAT: “Impeached. Arrested. Convicted. Shot. Still Standing”)

These figures do not include “gotaways,” which refers to illegal aliens who avoid Border Patrol detection and find their way into the United States.

!function(r,u,m,b,l,e){r._Rumble=b,r[b]||(r[b]=function(){(r[b]._=r[b]._||[]).push(arguments);if(r[b]._.length==1){l=u.createElement(m),e=u.getElementsByTagName(m)[0],l.async=1,l.src=”https://rumble.com/embedJS/u9lmzn”+(arguments[1].video?’.’+arguments[1].video:”)+”/?url=”+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+”&args=”+encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify([].slice.apply(arguments))),e.parentNode.insertBefore(l,e)}})}(window, document, “script”, “Rumble”);

“We have a historic immigration crisis because Kamala Harris started and said that she wanted to undo all of Donald Trump’s border policies. Ninety-four executive orders suspending deportations, decriminalizing illegal aliens, massively increasing the asylum fraud that exists in our system. That has opened the floodgates,” Vance said.

Walz responded by falsely claiming that the U.S. Senate had agreed to a “bipartisan border deal” that was killed by former President Trump. In reality, the “deal” was radically different than what Walz described. The Senate bill would have allowed up to 10,000 illegal aliens a day, provided tens of millions in funding for NGO’s and lawyers to speed up asylum claims and accelerated a green card handout. It also allocated hundreds of billions of dollars in foreign aid to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and other nations.

The Democratic Party nominee also dismissed police reports and citizen testimonials on the topic of pets and local wildlife being eaten by Haitian migrants in Springfield Ohio. After Vance responded to the question, Brennan and O’Donnell once again attempted to “fact check” the Republican candidate.

“Just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status, temporary protective status,” Brennan said before attempting to move on. At that point, Vance immediately jumped in to correct the false “fact check.”

The moderators and Vance went back and forth for a moment as Vance tried to correct the record while the moderators wanted to move on to another topic. “Margaret, the rules were that you guys weren’t going to fact check. And since you’re fact checking me, I think it’s important to say what’s actually going on

“So there’s an application called the CBP One app where you can go on as an illegal migrant, apply for asylum or apply for parole and be granted legal status at the wave of a Kamala Harris open border wand. That is not a person coming in, applying for a green card and waiting for 10 years. That is the facilitation of a legal immigration, Margaret, by our own leadership,” he continued, thoroughly disproving the “fact check.”

“Thank you so much for explaining the legal process,” Brennan smugly shot back. “We have so much to get to, Senator.”

As Vance continued to explain how the “fact check” was incorrect, the moderators eventually cut his microphone.

!function(r,u,m,b,l,e){r._Rumble=b,r[b]||(r[b]=function(){(r[b]._=r[b]._||[]).push(arguments);if(r[b]._.length==1){l=u.createElement(m),e=u.getElementsByTagName(m)[0],l.async=1,l.src=”https://rumble.com/embedJS/u9lmzn”+(arguments[1].video?’.’+arguments[1].video:”)+”/?url=”+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+”&args=”+encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify([].slice.apply(arguments))),e.parentNode.insertBefore(l,e)}})}(window, document, “script”, “Rumble”);

During Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz was asked about yet another scandal that emerged in the hours leading up to the event.

On August 16, 2024, House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) opened a congressional investigation into alleged ties between Walz and Chinese government officials. Comer reported that Walz has visited China at least 30 times and operated Travel Adventures Inc., a for-profit enterprise that organized trips to China for American children from 1991 through 2003.

In addition, Walz was a fellow at the Macau Polytechnic University during his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, a Chinese institution that characterizes itself as having a “long held devotion to and love for the motherland.”

VOTE NOW: Are You In Favor Of Term Limits For All Members Of Congress?

Walz was asked about his frequent trips to China during Tuesday night’s debate, including his claim that he was in the country during the crackdown on the Tiananmen Square protests in 1989. “I was in Hong Kong on June 4, 1989, when, of course, Tiananmen Square happened,” Walz previously said, according to a report from CNN released hours before the debate.

Walz at first attempted to sidestep the question by giving an answer about an unrelated topic. The moderators refused to let him off the hook, however, at which point Walz delivered an incoherent response.

“All I said on this was I got there that summer and misspoke on this. So I will just, that’s what I’ve said,” Walz replied with a stammer. “So I was in Hong Kong and China during the democracy protest went in,” he continued after an awkward moment of silence.

!function(r,u,m,b,l,e){r._Rumble=b,r[b]||(r[b]=function(){(r[b]._=r[b]._||[]).push(arguments);if(r[b]._.length==1){l=u.createElement(m),e=u.getElementsByTagName(m)[0],l.async=1,l.src=”https://rumble.com/embedJS/u9lmzn”+(arguments[1].video?’.’+arguments[1].video:”)+”/?url=”+encodeURIComponent(location.href)+”&args=”+encodeURIComponent(JSON.stringify([].slice.apply(arguments))),e.parentNode.insertBefore(l,e)}})}(window, document, “script”, “Rumble”);

In the days leading up to the pivotal debate — which will almost certainly be the last between the two major campaigns before Election Day — CNN had reported that Walz was struggling to get his nerves in check.

According to several of the governor’s senior aides, Walz had repeatedly stressed that he was worried about letting Vice President Harris down. Across close to a dozen conversations with senior members of the campaign’s staff, CNN reported that Walz was terrified that Harris would feel she made the wrong choice if he performed poorly.

“He feels genuine contempt for and confusion over what he views as Vance’s abandonment of their common roots, and for flipping so many of his positions to fit with Trump. The digs he takes at Vance by saying he didn’t know many Midwesterners who went to Yale are a glimpse into his anxiety that his opponent learned to be a sharp debater there,” the report continued, citing people who know Walz well,

Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) had previously conceded that Walz could run into trouble against a “lawyer type” like J.D. Vance. “He’s just not a lawyer-debater type. It’s not like he was dreaming of debates when he was in first grade.”

Vance’s debate skills played a large role in his victory over a crowded Republican primary field when he ran for U.S. Senate in 2022. Vance — who eventually secured Trump’s endorsement — fended off attacks over his past anti-Trump positions and was able to articulate why he changed his mind.

Vance also landed several memorable lines in his debate against U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) in the general election debate.

After asking Walz a straightforward question, debate moderator Margaret Brennan asked Vance a loaded question about former President Obama’s Iranian nuclear deal, which was widely criticized by Republican lawmakers due to lack of enforcement. Brennan claimed that the unenforceable deal was a successful deterrent and asked whether Trump made a “mistake” by doing away with it.

“Well, first of all, Margaret, diplomacy is not a dirty word, but I think that’s something that Governor Walz just said is quite extraordinary. You yourself just said Iran is as close to a nuclear weapon today as they have ever been, and Governor Walz, you blame Donald Trump. Who has been the vice president for the last three and a half years?” Vance answered. “And the answer is your running mate, not mine.”

The Republican nominee went on to note that several world conflicts have erupted under the Biden-Harris Administration.

“Donald Trump consistently made the world more secure. Now we talk about the sequence of events that led us to where we are right now and you can’t ignore October the 7th, which I appreciate Governor Walz bringing up, but when did Iran and Hamas and their proxies attack Israel? It was during the administration of Kamala Harris,” Vance continued.

In the weeks leading up to the vice presidential debate — which has the rare distinction of being the last match-up between the two major campaigns before Election Day — Vance had frequently criticized Walz for misrepresenting his military service record.

Soldiers from his unit with the Minnesota National Guard have questioned the circumstances surrounding his retirement just before a deployment to Iraq, and have noted that he has misrepresented his rank while on the campaign trail.

He has also claimed to have “carried weapons of war,” during a war,” and has insinuated that he was a veteran of the War in Afghanistan.

The Minnesota governor ultimately admitted that he misrepresented his rank after days of intense controversy. He also admitted that he “misspoke” when he claimed to have carried “weapons of war” during his lone interview of the campaign cycle, which he conducted alongside Vice President Harris.

Walz, on the other hand, had deployed an entirely different line of attack after he was selected as the Democratic nominee. The Minnesota governor — who signed a bill that placed tampons in boys school bathrooms and frequently brags about forming a school club where he could discuss sexuality with gay teens — has frequently attacked Trump and J.D. Vance by labeling them as “weird” and “creepy.”

While the line of attack was everywhere after Walz was selected, the line attack has largely fizzled out thanks to Walz’s bizarre mannerisms and speaking style. “But he is a weird guy. He walks on the stage, there’s something wrong with that guy.And he called me weird. And then the fake news media picks it up,” Trump said of Walz during a recent town hall event.

After a bombshell report released by CNN, vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is facing a new wave of scrutiny for repeatedly and falsely claiming to have been in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square massacre on June 4, 1989. CNN’s K-File investigative team, led by Andy Kaczynski, unearthed audio recordings and previous statements in which Walz referenced being in China at the time of the protests — a claim now proven to be inaccurate.

In a 2019 radio interview, Walz stated, “I was in Hong Kong on June 4, 1989, when, of course, Tiananmen Square happened.” However, CNN’s investigation reveals that Walz did not travel to China until August of that year, three months after the infamous crackdown on pro-democracy protesters. The discrepancies were first uncovered by the Washington Free Beacon, Minnesota Public Radio News, and further corroborated by local news reports from 1989 and 1990.

The false claims, which date back several years, have surfaced just ahead of the highly anticipated Vice Presidential debate, where Walz is set to debate J.D. Vance (R-OH) in New York on Tuesday night. Critics are calling the news a serious blow to Walz’s credibility.

While the Walz campaign has yet to directly address the claims, a source close to the governor told CNN, “The point Gov. Walz is making when he discusses this is that some folks in the World Teach program discussed dropping out after Tiananmen Square, but he continued on with the program because he believed it was important for the Chinese people to learn about American democracy and American history.”

In a 2014 congressional hearing commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, Walz, then a U.S. congressman, claimed that he had been in Hong Kong in May of 1989, just before the Chinese government’s military crackdown on student protesters. Walz described witnessing the events unfold from Hong Kong and stated, “I still remember the train station in Hong Kong. There was a large number of, especially European, I think, very angry that we would still go after what had happened, but it was my belief at that time that the diplomacy was going to happen on many levels.”

“The opportunity to be in a Chinese high school at that critical time seemed to me to be really important. And it was a very interesting summer to say the least. Because if you recall, as we moved in that summer and further on and the news blackouts and things that went on, you certainly can’t black out news from people if they want to get it,” Walz said at the time. When CNN sought clarification on the number of times Walz had traveled to China, a spokesperson for the Harris campaign stated that the number is “likely closer to 15.”

“The campaign was unable to produce documentation to back up Walz’s statement that he was there during the uprising,” MPR wrote when dissecting Walz’s experiences with China. A 1989 news report from the Chadron Record and another from the Alliance Times-Herald indicate that Walz did not leave the United States for China until August 1989, two months after the massacre took place. During May and June of that year, Walz was pictured and mentioned in local Nebraska newspapers while touring a National Guard storeroom in Alliance, Nebraska.

Before their wedding, Gwen Walz said to the Nebraska-based Star-Herald newspaper that they chose to get married on the anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre because “he wanted to have a date he’ll always remember.”

On Monday, a whistleblower revealed potential ties between Walz and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The GOP-led House Oversight Committee, chaired by Rep. James Comer (R-KY) issued a subpoena to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for documents related to the allegations. The whistleblower pointed to a Microsoft Teams chat among DHS employees discussing Walz and his alleged CCP connections. If the allegations are proven true, this could have significant political consequences for Walz and the Democrat Party just weeks before the election. With the VP debate fast approaching, it remains to be seen how Walz will respond to the brewing controversy.

On Tuesday, a group of Pennsylvania lawmakers honored Mercer County doctor Jim Sweetland, who jumped into action and attempted to save retired firefighter Corey Comperatore after he was shot in the head during former President Donald Trump’s July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Both Sweetland and Comperatore were seated behind the former president when 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire from a nearby building. Two Trump supporters — Jim Copenhaver and David Dutch — were critically wounded in the initial volley of gunfire.

At that point, Comperatore dove on his daughter and told her to get down before Crooks squeezed off additional shots. Comperatore was then struck in the head in the second volley while shielding his daughter from gunfire. Trump was also struck by a bullet that grazed his ear before the gunman was neutralized by Secret Service counter-snipers.

Sweetland, an emergency room physician, was undeterred by the gunfire and immediately leapt into action in order to provide care to the mortally wounded Comperatore.

Sweetland recalled that he heard a woman calling for help immediately after Secret Service agents rushed the stage. “He’s been shot. He’s down. I knew she was talking about somebody down there,” Sweetland told ABC 30.

“All I could think of was a voice in my head telling me, ‘Go, go. They need your help. Get over there,’” Sweetland said. The physician attempted CPR on Comperatore before he was transported off the bleachers by medical personnel.

On Tuesday, Sweetland was honored by a contingent of Pennsylvania lawmakers for his selfless and heroic efforts to save Comperatore.

“I think it was a divine sign by God that his hand was over this event. And there’s no doubt of divine providence that had Donald Trump twist his head in that right angle at that right instant, it’s impossible. You can’t be that lucky. God did intervene,” said Pennsylvania State Senator Doug Mastriano.

“Thank God he did, because politically, our conversation would be so different had it turned out differently. And we continue to pray for a hedge of protection over Donald Trump and his family.”

Mastriano, a retired Army colonel, then turned to Dr. Sweetland and thanked him for his courage.

“So Dr. Sweetland, courage comes in many forms. And what we saw from you on that day personifies what we hope to see in combat from soldiers. I spent 30 years in the Army, four times in combat zones, and I could not be prouder to be serving with such a citizen as you, to stand up and put your life at risk, running to the danger, trying to save Corey’s life. It’s a rare thing to see,” he said.

“And I was also struck that all the people there participating, despite the bloodshed, I didn’t see anyone running. I mean, it’s amazing the courage from Pennsylvanians in that environment. So on that sunny Saturday on 13 July in Butler, Pennsylvania, it was a scene of horror. But thank you for your courage in being a point of light in the dark, as trying to save Corey’s life.”

Former President Trump will be returning to Butler, Pennsylvania for a rally later this month. The Republican nominee has stated that the event will be a celebration of Corey Comparatore’s life, as well as those who were wounded or stepped up to help on July 13.
