A surge in Republican voter registration nationwide is adding to a wealth of evidence that the GOP is in a strong position across the board with 83 days to go before the November elections.

An analysis of voter registrations performed by Michael Pruser of Decision Desk HQ shows a tale of two political parties: one facing mountain headwinds while another runs toward Election Day with the wind at its back. Nationally, the Republican Party added more than a quarter-million members in July alone while the Democrat Party lost just over 19,000 in its ranks. Extrapolated over the past three and a half years since the last presidential election, the GOP enjoyed modest growth: a net gain of 393,365 sign-ups, including in some astounding places like California (+148,823), Florida (+151,456), and new Jersey (+152, 918). Today Florida contains one million more Republicans than Democrats, a stark change from the enrollment advantage Democrats enjoyed just four years ago, per the AP.

As positive as Republicans may feel about their party’s growth, they might be downright giddy about the shrinking Democratic electorate. Between November 2020 and July 2024, more than 3.5 million voters have left the Democratic Party, a sign of just how unfavorable it has become under President Joe Biden. That shift alone represents a change in identity for more than 2% of all voters nationwide.

During that same period, the number of independent voters has continued to surge to 1.8 million above its November 2020 level, underscoring a trend of disillusion that many Americans feel about both major parties. Before President Biden exited the race, many election prognosticators waxed about the “double haters,” or voters who would be selecting between two candidates who they disliked. Now with Vice President Kamala Harris in the race, observers are waiting to see whether enthusiasm around her campaign solidifies into momentum or simply passes like a sugar high.

Among the issues most salient to voters are those where President Trump receives his highest remarks. When asked who is most trustworthy on matters like immigration and the economy, the former president generally bests Harris, though some polls show she is catching up with Trump on economic policies. GOP-aligned allies have encouraged the Trump campaign to work harder to tie the unpopular vice president to Biden’s policies, including those Americans believe contributed to inflation and higher consumer prices. In a sign of just how popular President Trump has become, Harris is now borrowing his ideas on the campaign trail; during a rally in Nevada this week, the Democrat promised to abolish federal taxes on tipped wages, a change originally proposed by Trump. He responded by mocking Harris in a post on Truth Social.

The Republican National Committee, in conjunction with the Nevada secretary of state’s office, announced that more than 90,000 inactive voters have been cleared from the rolls in Clark County, which is the crucial swing state’s most populous.

“The Nevada Republican Party is proud to announce the successful clean-up of voter rolls in Clark County. This achievement is the result of dedicated efforts by the NVGOP, the Republican National Committee, Trump Campaign, and numerous grassroots organizations, in collaboration with the Nevada Secretary of State and Clark Registrar of Voters,” the RNC announced in a press release.

“This concerted effort has led to the removal of over 90,000 voters who should no longer be considered active, significantly enhancing the accuracy and integrity of the voter.”

The executive board of the Nevada Republican Party expressed satisfaction with the effort in a statement of their own. “We are incredibly pleased with the recent voter roll clean-up in Clark County. Our team has worked tirelessly to ensure a fair and free election this November. We look forward to seeing the results of the voter roll clean-ups in the other 16 counties,” the party said.

“As we approach the upcoming November elections, the NVGOP will continue to work closely with state and local officials to ensure that voter rolls across all counties are accurate and up-to-date.”

Removing inactive voters from state rolls has become a major focus of the RNC’s election integrity efforts ahead of the 2024 election.

In Virginia, Attorney General Jason Miyares recently announced that a similar effort has been undertaken in his state. “6,303. That’s the number of noncitizens identified and removed from Virginia’s voting rolls under our watch,” Miyares wrote in an X post. “I’m proud of my office’s work to help ensure election integrity.”

The move comes after Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin issued an executive order focused on election integrity. Under the order, Virginia has increased monitoring of address changes, deaths and other changes in order to remove voters from the rolls. In addition, Virginia has entered into data sharing agreements with 42 states and has instituted mandatory audits.

A super PAC funded in part by Elon Musk and dedicated to supporting former President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign is in the crosshairs of Democratic officials who are using its prominence to draw attention to “dark money” in the presidential election.

CNBC first reported on an investigation by Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson into Musk’s multi-million donations to America PAC even though neither she nor elected Democrats could point to any specific laws the third-party group has broken. Musk publicly endorsed Trump following the July 13th assassination attempt against him. Additionally, he pledged to donate upwards of $45 million per month to groups like America PAC that would support Trump’s reelection. The X owner and founder of Tesla and SpaceX has a net worth of $225 million and is far and away the richest individual in the world.

The group’s focus has been on registering voters nationwide but puts a special emphasis on collecting data from voters in battleground states. Those who live in states such as Georgia, Pennsylvania, or Arizona and visit the PAC’s website will be asked to share contact information like email addresses and cell phone numbers, while others from solidly red or blue states will be directed to a more generic form asking them to register to vote. In Michigan, where Trump is neck-and-neck with Vice President Kamala Harris, residents are asked to enter everything from their phone number and email address to their zip code.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Benson said the office is probing the PAC to determine if voter data is being used and disclosed properly. “Every citizen should know exactly how their personal information is being used by PACs, especially if an entity is claiming it will help people register to vote in Michigan or any other state,” a spokeswoman for the Michigan secretary of state’s office said in a statement to CNBC. “While the America PAC is a federal political action committee, the Department is reviewing their activities to determine if there have been any violations of state law. We will refer potential violations to the Michigan Attorney General’s office as appropriate.”

A person familiar with the inner workings of America PAC told the outlet that there have been some discrepancies about the function of buttons on its website and that the group plans to update the site soon. They added that the group does not directly register voters in swing states. Experts who spoke with CNBC said they did not see any signs of potential lawbreaking. Barbara McQuade, former U.S. Attorney for Michigan’s eastern district, said “I am not aware of any laws being broken.” Mary Massaron, a partner at law firm Plunkett Cooney, could not point to any specific violations but urged the PAC to be more transparent about its data collection efforts. “It is very troubling for any candidate or PAC funded project to deliberately fail to provide information or a link to register to vote when someone asks because they would potentially vote for the opposing candidates,” Massaron said in an email.

The Republican National Committee has sued Benson at least twice, once for “secretly attempting to circumvent Michigan’s absentee voting safeguards,” according to the GOP, and a second time in connection with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s efforts to expand the number state agencies who could assist with voter registration.

A delicate dance between RFK and Trump has gone on for the better part of the year, with each offering cautious praise of the other while cautioning that they are still far apart on major issues, including abortion and Wall Street regulations. ABC News previously reported that the two met privately during last week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee where the idea of a position in Trump’s administration was brought up. One source said that a possible appointment may relate to overseeing the federal government’s Health and Human Services Administration, a behemoth agency that oversees more than $100 billion in annual spending. The position is notable because of RFK’s prominence as a vaccine skeptic and frequent critic of former presidential advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci.

The conversation is said to have never reached a definite agreement, with one person telling ABC the talks were “free-flowing” and only an “informal” conversation. The two originally spoke by phone on the evening of July 13 after President Trump narrowly avoided an assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The sources went on to state that RFK liked the idea because he believed in national unity and rejection by the Democratic Party after spending more than a year in talks trying to “bring the party back to its roots.” RFK left the party in October and filed to continue his presidential campaign as an independent.

A spokeswoman for President Trump confirmed the two met in Milwaukee and stated their conversation was all business. “President Trump met with RFK and they had a conversation about the issues just as he does regularly with important figures in business and politics because they all recognize he will be the next President of the United States,” Trump spokeswoman Danielle Alvarez told ABC News in a statement.

The former chair of the Republican National Committee who touted Mitt Romney as the party’s ideal presidential nominee back in 2012 is now in the crosshairs of conservatives for bailing on his party and supporting Vice President Kamala Harris in November.

Following the landslide loss of Romney to former President Barack Obama as he sought a second term, the RNC conducted a much-touted “autopsy” report on why the Republican Party struggled to win over young and minority voters despite years of concerted outreach. Much of the report focused on the years leading up to the election, especially the 2009-2011 period chaired by Michael Steele, a former lieutenant governor of Maryland and a prominent Black Republican. While he rode a red wave in 2010 thanks in large party to the Tea Party movement, Steele was unceremoniously ousted the following year by Reince Priebus.

Since leaving center stage, Steele has refashioned himself into an anti-Trump political pundit, sitting on panels on mainstream media outlets and lamenting the sea change that’s taken place in the GOP since the 2016 election of former President Donald Trump. Now that the 45th president appears poised to defeat Harris, Steele is showing his true colors, endorsing Harris just days after she succeeded President Joe Biden on the ticket.

In a post on X, the former Republican leader shared a picture of Harris dressed in a Captain America outfit and trolled Trump’s old account, writing “Hey @realDonaldTrump. You ready for this?”

The post, spotted by the Western Journal, mirrors similar ones posted by influential liberal accounts on the social network, indicating what Steele has been reading since leaving his old party in the rearview. Brian Krassenstein, an influencer who has been paid to prop up Biden’s flailing campaign before it was ended, also shared the AI-generated image of Harris, asking followers if it was “weird” and predicting the Democrat would be leading in the polls within five weeks.

To be sure, Steele was a vocal anti-Trump opponent long before this year. He joined the Lincoln Project in 2020, whose stated goal was to unite Republicans against President Trump’s reelection, endorsing Biden and appearing in the group’s advertisements. For his years of undermining conservatives, Steele was granted a recurring role in MSNBC’s new weekend lineup alongside the former spokeswoman for Bernie Sanders (I-VT).

If Steele thought his post was a flex, he might have miscalculated judging by the flood of critical comments he received. “Omg – No dignity, cringe AF,” wrote a prominent conservative poster. “I’m so embarrassed for you,” said Federalist contributor David Harsanyi in his own reply. And a Twitchy curator laughed on the inside, saying Trump “broke” Steele’s brain.

Following the attempted assassination of Trump earlier this month, Steele was slammed for pushing a far-left conspiracy theory that the Republican leader wasn’t actually shot at the rally when he questioned whether Trump was actually hit with the bullet, according to Fox News.

“From running the RNC to debasing himself on MSNBC and posting AI-generated Dem fan fiction. Gives you a good glimpse at how the Republican Party was run for a couple of decades, and why voters were so hungry for someone like Donald Trump to start fighting,” posted Christopher Bedford, senior politics editor and DC correspondent for The Blaze.

New police bodycam footage of a fatal officer-involved shooting just outside the Republican National Convention perimeter in Milwaukee has been released.

Footage shows a group of police officers discussing how to handle clashing groups of protesters throughout the week when one of them notices that two men were fighting in the middle of the street. “He’s got a knife,” one of the officers can be heard saying, at which point several officers converged on the fight.

Multiple officers yelled “drop the knife” while at least one identified themselves as officers. One of the men– who has been identified as Samuel Sharpe — was holding a knife in each of his hands. When he charged at the other man, police opened fire.

Sharpe’s family stated that he chose to live in a tent community, though he still kept in touch with them. In recent days, the 43-year-old had told his family that a man had been threatening him. He had left the tent community, though he had returned to get his dog.

Sharpe’s brother told FOX 6 that the deceased had multiple sclerosis and struggled to stand. He does not believe that his brother was the aggressor in Tuesday’s fatal encounter.

“I believe my brother was defending himself. If anything he was defending himself,” he said. “If you’ve ever seen someone with advanced MS, it’s very laborious to walk, anything like that. It’s like putting a child against an adult. A toddler that barely knows how to walk. He ain’t going to get away. The man that was in that video knew all of that information as well.”

The officers involved in the shooting were in from Columbus, Ohio in order to assist with convention security.

Sharpe’s death prompted protests in Milwaukee, Police Chief Jeffrey Norman told Fox 6.

Backstage footage has emerged of the moment before former President Donald Trump took the stage at the Republican National Convention on Thursday night.

Trump arrived in the arena shortly after 8 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday and proceeded to listen to a number of speeches, including a very popular speech from wrestling legend Hulk Hogan. Trump appeared to love Hogan’s speech, which was done in his signature raspy, intense voice and included a number of his signature lines.

The former president could be seen beaming ear-to-ear when Hogan ripped off both his jacket and shirt to reveal a Trump-Vance 2024 undershirt.

Ahead of Trump’s historic entrance, New York Times photographer Doug Mills snapped a photo of the former president and former First Lady Melania Trump. As Trump took the stage, he drew attention to the fire gear of slain fire chief Corey Comperatore, who was killed in the assassination attempt in western Pennsylvania this past Saturday.

Trump proceeded to deliver a touching tribute to Comperatore during his speech, describing him as a hero. At one point, he left the podium before walking over to the slain firefighter’s gear before proceeding to kiss it. The former president also led the convention crowd in a moment of silence for Comperatore.

I I began speaking very strongly, powerfully, and happily, because I was discussing the great job my administration did on immigration at the southern border,” the former president explained.

Several angles of the shooting have revealed that the former president turned his head at exactly the right moment in order to avoid the assassin’s bullet.

I immediately knew it was very serious, that we were under attack. And in one movement, proceeded to drop to the ground,” Trump recounted.

“Bullets were continuing to fly as very brave Secret Service agents rushed to the stage, and they really did. and they really did. They rushed to the stage,” he continued, prompting the crowd to rise in honor of the agents who evacuated the former president.

Trump went on to state his belief that he was only saved through divine intervention.

“I’m not supposed to be here tonight. Not supposed to be here,” Trump said. The crowd then replied with shouts of “no” and erupted into chants of “yes you are!”

“Thank you. But I’m not,” the former president replied.

Former President Donald Trump made an emotional entrance to the Republican National Convention on Thursday.

After a speech from UFC President Dana White and a performance from Kid Rock, the event once again took on a more somber tone as Trump was introduced by Lee Greenwood and a live rendition of his signature entrance song, “God Bless The USA.”

As Greenwood started performing, the stage design lifted up to reveal the former president already standing on stage. Sporting a white bandage on his ear, the former president paced the stage for a number of minutes before taking the podium in front of a White House backdrop.

Also on stage was the fire gear of retired firefighter Corey Comperatore, a father of two who was killed when a gunman opened fire at the rally. Comperatore died while shielding his family from gunfire.

Thursday night’s featured RNC address marked the first time former President Trump has delivered a public speech since he was nearly killed in an assassination attempt during a rally in western Pennsylvania on July 13. The former president narrowly avoided being killed when he turned his head at the last second to take a look at a chart, causing the bullet to graze his ear.

He was released from the hospital just hours later and opted to continue with the Republican National Convention without delay.

On Monday, the former president made an emotional entrance to the convention in what was his first public appearance since the attempt on his life. Trump took on a more somber look as opposed to his generally energetic self as he entered the arena to cheers and chants of “we love Trump” and “fight, fight, fight” from the crowd.

He then made an emotional walk to his seats to a live rendition of Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless The USA,” frequently pausing to pump his fist and acknowledge the crowd.

Trump made his appearance on Thursday not long after former First Lady Melania Trump received a standing ovation from the crowd during her own entrance.

“I am thinking of you, now, my fellow Americans,” the former first lady wrote in a press release after her husband was shot.

“We have always been a unique union. America, the fabric of our gentle nation is tattered, but our courage and common sense must ascend and bring us back together as one. When I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of devastating change,” the statement continued. “I am grateful to the brave secret service agents and law enforcement officials who risked their own lives to protect my husband. To the families of the innocent victims who are now suffering from this heinous act, I humbly offer my sincerest sympathy. Your need to summon your inner strength for such a terrible reason saddens me.”

Wrestling icon Hulk Hogan received a hero’s welcome at the Republican National Convention on Thursday night.

After taking the stage following a montage complete with his signature intro song, “Real American,” the crowd erupted into loud cheers and chants of “USA!”

Hogan then channeled his signature wrestling voice and dished out his iconic quote, beginning his speech with, “LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING, BROTHER!”

“Well, let me tell you something, when I came here tonight, there was so much energy in this room, I felt maybe I was in Madison Square Garden getting ready to win another world title. Or maybe I thought the vibe was so intense, the energy was so crazy, it felt like maybe I was going to press that no-good, stinky giant over my head and slam him through the mat, brother,” Hogan told the crowd.

“But what I found out was I was in a room full of real Americans, brother. And at the end of the day, with our leader up there, my hero, that gladiator, we’re going to bring America back together, one real American at a time, to bring America back together, one real American at a time,” the wrestling icon continued while pointing to former President Trump.

He went on to reference the assassination attempt on the former president. “But what happened last week, when they took a shot at my hero and they tried to kill the next president of the United States, enough was enough, and I said let Trumpomania, make America great again!”

The wrestling icon then proceeded to rip off both his jacket and shirt to reveal a red “Trump-Vance 2024” undershirt.

In an interview with Fox News earlier in the day, Hogan explained why he decided to speak at the convention. “I got tired of remaining silent. You know, I just sat back and watch the borders collapse. I watch the economy collapse you know, I watch the price of gas the price of food everything just do a upside down flip,” Hogan told host Bret Baier. “And when they took a shot at my hero Donald Trump, I realized that I couldn’t be silent anymore.”

“It rattled me to my core when this happened. And when I saw him stand up, with the blood on his face as a warrior, as a leader, I realized that’s what America needs.”
