Jesse Watters has struck again, this time turning the spotlight on Vice President Kamala Harris’ long-touted narrative of growing up in the “rough and tumble” streets of Oakland. But Watters claims there’s just one problem—she didn’t grow up in Oakland at all.

On his prime-time Fox News show, Watters unveiled Harris’ birth certificate to reveal what he called the “real truth” about where the Vice President spent her formative years. According to Watters, Harris was born in Berkeley, not Oakland, which he says is a far cry from the gritty, working-class upbringing she’s often portrayed.

“Kamala Harris wants you to believe she’s a product of Oakland’s hard streets,” Watters said, showing a copy of Harris’ birth certificate. “But in reality, she was born and raised in the People’s Republic of Berkeley—yes, Berkeley, the most insanely liberal precinct in America.”

Watters went on to describe Berkeley as “Berserkly,” the epicenter of radical leftist movements, where Harris grew up just a stone’s throw away from the University of California campus. “Her birth certificate lists an apartment right next to Berkeley’s campus, a half block south of People’s Park,” Watters continued. “This is ground zero for every single radical protest movement in the country.”

The Fox News host didn’t stop there. He pointed out that Harris attended Berkeley public schools and was even bused to schools within the city, a far cry from the urban struggles of Oakland that she’s used as a political talking point. Watters mocked Harris’ famous debate line, “That little girl was me,” suggesting that the Vice President has crafted a misleading story about her upbringing. “If you lie about where you grew up—about something that’s at the very core of who you are—how can people trust anything you say?” Watters questioned.

She was indeed born in an Oakland hospital in 1964, but she did not settle in the city until she was in her 20s and working as a prosecutor in the county district attorney’s office.

Her birth certificate lists an apartment building near the University of California, Berkeley campus, where her parents were pursuing Ph.D.s. It sat just a half-block south of People’s Park, the campus land taken over by activists in 1969, just a few years after the Harris family moved out of the building.

When Ms. Harris was a toddler, her family moved to the Midwest where her father, Donald Harris, taught briefly at universities in Illinois and Wisconsin. After her parents split up, Ms. Harris returned to Berkeley when she was 5, with her mother, Shyamala Gopalan Harris, and her sister, Maya, and eventually settled into the little yellow house in the “flatlands,” then a working-class part of the city with a large population of Black families.

Ms. Harris’s mother was steeped in the social activism vibrant in both Berkeley and Oakland. Ms. Harris attended Berkeley public schools and was bused to Thousand Oaks Elementary School in a more upscale neighborhood in the hills of north Berkeley as part of a voluntary program to integrate schools.

Harris has often referenced her upbringing as a key part of her political identity, describing herself as a child of the civil rights movement who grew up with a strong sense of justice. However, the timing couldn’t be worse for Harris, as she faces mounting scrutiny in the lead-up to the 2024 election.

Six years after being shown the door by NBC News, Megyn Kelly is getting the last laugh.

Kelly made an illustrious career for herself at Fox News between 2004 and 2017, signing off as one of the network’s most popular evening anchors in history. Her departure came at the height of the #MeToo movement when allegations of sexual harassment led to the firing of Fox co-founder Roger Ailes, and she gained prominence for going public about Ailes’s attempts to forcibly kiss her and repeatedly demanding she send nude photos of herself to him. She transitioned to host and correspondent duties at NBC News but was dismissed in 2018 after comments about blackface Halloween costumes. Media reports at the time show she netted a $30 million settlement with the network as a result.

Since then, Kelly has built her own brand on SiriusXM where “The Megyn Kelly Show” dominates satellite radio’s talk show charts. Semafor reported on the latest ratings which show the 53-year-old better positioned than ever to be one of the most influential voices in conservative news. “According to audience figures highlighted by Kelly’s team for Semafor, Kelly’s show is now not only one of the most listened-to programs on SiriusXM, but it’s also one of the top ten podcasts in the country and its viewership is eclipsing that of some mainstream news outlets on YouTube,” the outlet noted.

The decision to launch her own program came after a lengthy discussion with Ben Shapiro, a conservative kingmaker who launched his own company, The Daily Wire, in 2015. Kelly recounted that Shapiro convinced her that striking out on his own was the best career decision he ever made, and he’s been able to net outsized profits by streamlining his staff. “Kelly boasts that despite the fact that she only has six staffers, she has managed to get numbers that put her in the range of the accounts of legacy media outlets,” Semafor noted. “The Megyn Kelly Show’s YouTube channel, which has 2.3 million subscribers, had 116.8 million views in July — more views than the official channels for NBC News (78 million) CBS News (83 million), Sky News (87 million), the BBC News (72 million) and CNBC (17 million).”

Kelly still offers free partial programming on YouTube where she says her audience welcomes the familiar feel of seeing her on camera. “On-camera is how people are used to getting their news from me, so it likely feels familiar,” she told the outlet. She joked, “I am also half Italian, half Irish, so if you choose to watch the show, you will definitely glean something from the hand gestures and facial expressions that you might not always pick up on from listening alone. With the news what it is these days, sometimes an eye-roll, forehead slap, or pen-throw is absolutely required.”

Separations between superstar journalists and the legacy media have become more pronounced, most notably with the 2023 termination of former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. His firing came shortly after a landmark nine-figure settlement with Dominion Voting Systems to settle a lawsuit that Carlson and others used their platforms at the network to defame the company’s voting machines used in the 2020 elections. Carlson rebranded on X, releasing free hour-long shows before launching his own subscription service. He has interviewed former President Donald Trump and leading voices in conservative politics and was even rumored to be on the former president’s shortlist for a vice presidential pick.

At the time, Kelly encouraged her former colleague to “breach the contract” binding him to Fox News, which the network attempted to enforce in a bid to sideline him through the 2024 election. “He should come out. He should talk. He should start a rival news network. He should quit. He should forfeit the money,” Kelly said. “He’ll make more money anyway.”

Media entrepreneurism is not confined to conservatives, either. Don Lemon, the longtime CNN host who was fired earlier this year for a number of crude remarks about Nikki Haley and other Republican women, has since begun to produce his own show on X until he had a falling out with owner Elon Musk following their interview. Dramatic video released on Thursday appears to show a violent group of Venezuelan migrants taking control over a rural apartment building in a troubled Colorado town, a sign that the state’s worsening immigration crisis shows no sign of slowing down.

Doorbell video obtained by Fox News shows a parade of young men, some brandishing handguns and long guns, bursting through the doors of private apartments in a building located in Aurora City, a suburb just a half-hour drive from the heart of Denver. In the clip, the young men, all wearing hooded sweatshirts or caps, break into one room as part of activity that police and petrified residents say is part of a widespread criminal enterprise. “This is organized. They patrol the property with guns visibly, like they’re not trying to hide them. There’s no repercussion. These are ghosts,” said one resident too scared to provide their name.

Local authorities believe the migrants to be affiliated with Tren de Aragua, or TdA, a sprawling gang headquartered in Venezuela that counts more than 5,000 members across North and South America. Their motto is “real until death,” or “real hasta la muerte,” a reminder that they feel “no accountability” to the police, one furious resident told Fox. The New York Post has previously linked TdA to at least 100 crimes across the nation. Aurora City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky told the network she is convinced “without a doubt that there is sex trafficking now going on” in the building.

The state of gang activity in the Aurora City apartment complex became so bad in recent days that Jurinsky and other members of the city council convened emergency measures to relocate residents to other homes for their own safety. John Fabbricatore, a Republican congressional candidate who assisted in the effort, told Fox, “I literally had to borrow from everybody I know to get into a new place. And it’s every bit of money I had.” Jurinsky said it would have been impossible to get residents the resources they need without the spotlight shined on the problem. “Through the help of Fox News actually, they connected us with the councilwoman who, Danielle Jurinsky, pulled together all the resources to get us some help and get us out of there,” she told Fox.

The Aurora City Police Department released a statement online stating “We believe reports of TdA influence in Aurora are isolated.” Denver police told a Fox affiliate the department is “not aware” of similar gang activity within its borders. That comes as little comfort to one resident who described the pervasive fear they and their neighbors felt every single night when TdA gang members were allowed to freely roam the halls toting powerful guns. “There’s no safety net for you because the police are not coming. They say, ‘Stay inside and lock your doors.’ I have to work! I was paying rent, these people haven’t been paying rent at all. I’ve been paying rent every month for years,” one anonymous resident said.

One name being floated in the nascent Republican field even includes a longtime Fox News host who says he isn’t afraid to speak the “uncomfortable” truths about how bad life on the West Coast has become.

The National Pulse reported that Steve Hilton, a former director of strategy for the British Prime Minister David Cameron, is giving “serious consideration” to a run in 2026, according to those familiar with his thinking. He served Cameron from 2010 to 2012 and has hosted Fox News’s current affairs show “The Next Revolution” since 2017 but recently has become more focused on the Golden State’s local politics, especially topics like homelessness and California’s staggering $145 billion debt. “He is thinking very seriously about running for governor, and he is doing it in a very organized way,” said former California Republican Party chairman Jim Brulte in a recent interview. “I know he’s talking to a lot of the right people because I have heard from a lot of the right people that he’s talking to them.”

Gov. Newsom has noticed the undeniable shift in voter sentiment and most recently staged a photo op where he helped officials remove tents from homeless encampments after signing into law new restrictions against them. The two-term Democrat has played footsie with national politics, frequently commenting on President Joe Biden’s campaign and mocking other Republican presidential contenders who he said didn’t stack up against former President Donald Trump. During his first term, Newsom paid for a national advertising campaign encouraging voters to pressure Congress to enact a 28th Amendment banning assault weapons, another reminder that he is one of the Democratic Party’s leading contenders to run for the White House in 2028.

Hilton will certainly be forced to address his support of Trump, who remains deeply unpopular among California voters. Steve Harvey, the Republican Party’s nominee for U.S. Senate this year, will provide him with a model to judge how a 2026 campaign may go, especially if Newsom declines to seek a third term.

The Harris and Trump campaigns are at loggerheads over the terms of a looming first presidential debate, with a last-minute demand by Vice President Kamala Harris threatening to derail one of the few opportunities Americans will have to judge both candidates side-by-side.

According to Politico, the Democrat’s team is demanding that microphones at both podiums be left on throughout the duration of the two-hour debate, scheduled for September 10th on ABC News. The request amounts to a reversal from the Biden campaign’s insistence that former President Donald Trump’s microphone be muted when the two met on June 27th, a change that Harris spokesman Brian Fallon said Trump’s team should have no problem agreeing to if they trust their candidate.

“We have told ABC and other networks seeking to host a possible October debate that we believe both candidates’ mics should be live throughout the full broadcast,” Fallon, the Harris campaign’s senior adviser for communications, told Politico Playbook in a text message Sunday night. “Our understanding is that Trump’s handlers prefer the muted microphone because they don’t think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own. We suspect Trump’s team has not even told their boss about this dispute because it would be too embarrassing to admit they don’t think he can handle himself against Vice President Harris without the benefit of a mute button.”

Anonymous sources close to Harris said she is more than happy to let President Trump try to interrupt her on stage, suggesting she is giddy about the possibility that the former president might lose his cool. “She’s more than happy to have exchanges with him if he tries to interrupt her,” one Harris confidant added. “And given how shook he seems by her, he’s very prone to having intemperate outbursts and … I think the campaign would want viewers to hear [that].”

Trump’s senior advisor Jason Miller poured cold water on the notion that the Republican would agree to Harris’s bait-and-switch tactics, saying Trump will arrive ready to debate whether she is there or not. “Enough with the games. We accepted the ABC debate under the exact same terms as the CNN debate. The Harris camp, after having already agreed to the CNN rules, asked for a seated debate, with notes, and opening statements. We said no changes to the agreed upon rules,” Miller responded. “If Kamala Harris isn’t smart enough to repeat the messaging points her handlers want her to memorize, that’s their problem. This seems to be a pattern for the Harris campaign. They won’t allow Harris to do interviews, they won’t allow her to do press conferences, and now they want to give her a cheat-sheet for the debate. My guess is that they’re looking for a way to get out of any debate with President Trump.”

The Harris campaign has been coy about the debate, saying the ground rules were agreed to by the campaign of President Joe Biden, not hers. They also cite Trump’s attempt shift the debate from ABC, where he is suing George Stephanopoulos, to friendlier grounds at Fox News on September 4th with a “full arena audience.” Further, they add, Trump insisted that microphones be left on during the 2020 debate, with then-campaign manager Bill Stepien writing to the Presidential Debates Commission, “It is completely unacceptable for anyone to wield such power. … This is reminiscent of the first debate in 2016, when the President’s microphone was oscillated, and it is not acceptable.”

Fallon, the Harris spokesman, pushed back against the accusation that Harris was attempting to shift the debate to a seated format with notes. “All three parties (Trump, Harris and ABC) have agreed to standing and no notes, and we never sought otherwise,” he said. Other sources told the outlet that Harris’s team only accepted the ABC debate with the understanding that the rules themselves would remain under negotiation.

A second debate offer from NBC News, which would take place September 25th, has already been agreed to by Trump but not Harris. The vice president’s campaign said she would consider a second presidential debate in October. Meanwhile, vice presidential candidates Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will face off on October 1st on CBS News. “Voters deserve to see the candidates for the highest office in the land share their competing visions for our future,” Harris’ communications director Michael Tyler said in a statement to Fox News. “The more they play games, the more insecure and unserious Trump and Vance reveal themselves to be to the American people. Doocy managed to charm Harris with a “good to see you” as she headed through the bowels of the Chicago convention center toward an exit, causing her to smile and stop to shake hands. His question was more foreboding than substantive, a warning to Harris that Fox News isn’t going to quit until the network has a chance to speak with her. “Are you ready for your Fox News interview?” he asked. Harris laughed and shrugged her shoulders before moving on. “I’m working towards it,” she joked before hurrying off. Doocy, a common foe to administration spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre, may be the very last reporter in Washington to receive a sit-down with Vice President Harris, if one occurs at all.

Doocy, 37, has been with the network since 2009 when he joined at the general assignment desk, working his way up the ranks and taking advantage of his opportunity to cover the Biden-Harris administration through a critical lens. Many of his exchanges with KJP have gone viral, especially among conservative audiences, for catching the spokeswoman off guard or baiting her into giving deflective or nonsensical answers. He has even gotten under the skin of President Joe Biden: several weeks before he dropped out, Doocy shouted a question to the president about whether he believed polls showing most Americans have grave concerns about his age and fitness for a second term. “That’s stupid!” Biden shouted back.

Now, it’s Vice President Harris’s turn to eventually face the media and confront questions about her record and qualifications for serving as Biden’s successor. Michael Tyler, a Harris campaign spokesman, has been called out for responding vaguely about when or if she may sit down for an extended and unscripted interview with the media. Earlier this month, Tyler assured CNN’s Jim Acosta that Harris would hold one interview “by the end of the month” and pointed to her numerous campaign rallies as evidence she’s out and about. “Michael, you know that a campaign rally is not a press conference,” Acosta replied.

Before Doocy’s quip, reporters were able to collect just 70 seconds’ worth of Harris’s time in an airport hangar before aides shuffled her away. The Democrat has indeed been prolific on the campaign trail, but her remarks have been carefully scripted and delivered by teleprompters, leading observers to question whether her team is afraid of her returning to a pattern of making awkward statements without prepared remarks. In June, former Harris spokeswoman Ashley Etienne opined on CNN that Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) “would pose the greatest threat” if she had to face him in a vice presidential debate. Vance was ultimately tapped by former President Donald Trump, but with Biden’s withdrawal from the race, Harris can breathe a sigh of relief as Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will face off with him instead.

Former President Donald Trump didn’t wait long before responding to sharp criticisms of his record on Thursday night, calling into Fox News and telling host Greg Gutfeld about all the failures he claims Vice President Kamala Harris failed to mention in her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention.

Gutfeld, who hosts the network’s late-night program from 10 to 11 p.m. ET, grabbed his cell phone and turned on the speaker as President Trump panned Harris’s promises to institute price controls and insistence that the economy has done better under President Joe Biden than him. “Hey Mr. President, I’m live now! Say hello to my audience,” Gutfeld said as the studio roared. “So don’t say anything that’ll get you in trouble!”

Trump immediately reminded listeners that the latest polls show him leading and Democrats “basically told [President Biden] to get out and they staged a coup… I think we’re doing very well.” Gutfeld, laughing, wished “Mr. P” well and hung up. “I told you he was gonna call!” he said.

The former president’s attack continued well into Thursday night on his Truth Social profile where he faulted Harris for deceiving Americans into believing she would be a bridge builder in office rather than a far-left extremist. “LYING AGAIN ABOUT PROJECT 2025, WHICH SHE KNOWS, AND SO DO ALL DEMOCRATS, THAT I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH!” Trump wrote Thursday night during his opponent’s nomination speech. Project 2025, an initiative to implement deeply conservative policies being spearheaded by the Heritage Foundation, has not been coordinated with the Trump campaign, he claims. Trump also knocked Harris for having three and a half years in office to find progress on a number of fronts; instead, he wrote, Harris delivered vague promises of bipartisanship and popular policy platitudes. “She didn’t mention China, she didn’t mention fracking, she didn’t mention Energy, she didn’t mention, meaningfully, Russia and Ukraine, she didn’t mention the big subjects of the day, that are destroying our Country. There are 60 million people in poverty in the U.S., under their watch, and she doesn’t even talk about them!” he added.

In a bid to draw national media outlets away from the Democrats’ unifying event, President Trump paid a visit to the southern border on Thursday where he stood at part of a border wall in Cochise County, Arizona. He was joined by the mother and father of a 12-year-old girl who was recently kidnapped and murdered by two migrants who recently entered the country. Jocelyn Nungaray was found strangled in a Dallas creek, a case the president said highlights the “weak border security policy” of the Biden-Harris administration. “I have to go through the rest of my life with my son always asking for his sister, and I just really, really, really want everybody to please take into consideration how important border control is,” Jocelyn’s mother Alexis Nungaray said, KHOU reported.
