Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s revenge tour ended with a whimper on Tuesday night as Florida firebrand Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was easily victorious in his primary election against a well-financed challenger put up by his onetime nemesis.

NBC News reported that Gaetz easily prevailed over Republican challenger Aaron Dimmock, a Navy veteran who was deeply financed by McCarthy in the state’s 1st Congressional District, which covers its northernmost portion as well as the panhandle. An outside group controlled by McCarthy, the Florida Patriots PAC, spent more than $3.5 million on a string of negative TV ads attacking Rep. Gaetz for sowing divisions in Washington, lines which ultimately did not sway Republican voters; with 98% of the vote in Tuesday morning, Gaetz had collected 72.6% to Dimmock’s 27.4%, the outlet reported. In a sign of how weak the challenge became toward the end, the PAC pulled its ads from the airwaves three weeks before the election.

A series of accusatory ads against Gaetz highlighted a congressional ethics investigation into allegations that he had an intimate relationship with multiple underage women. The congressman has dismissed the ongoing probe as “frivolous.” Other McCarthy foes who prevailed over his challengers include Reps. Nancy Mace (R-NC) and Eli Crane (R-AZ), both of whom joined Gaetz in voting to remove McCarthy as House Speaker last last year. McCarthy claimed one win this cycle, narrowly defeating antagonizer Bob Good (R-VA) in his primary.

McCarthy also got a boost from Trump who released an ad touting his support of the hard-right conservative. He is “a very good person, and he’s a very capable man,” Trump said in a video released by the McCarthy campaign. “You ever watch this guy on television? Like a machine. He’s great. He loves Florida, and he loves the country.” Aware that his campaign to unseat Gaetz was sputtering, McCarthy said he believes the negative messaging will hamper the congressman’s ability to reach higher office someday. “I don’t think he’ll ever be able to run for governor like he wants to,” McCarthy has previously said.

Since vacating his seat in January, McCarthy has become more outspoken about the party that largely shrugged as he left it behind. He traveled to Oxford University where he credited House Democrats with assembling a diverse caucus that he said actually “looks like America” while dinging the mostly white Republican caucus for its homogeny. “When you look at the Democrats, they actually look like America. When I look at my party we look like the most restrictive country club in America,” he told the Oxford Union Society late last year.

During last month’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, the two men nearly came to blows on the floor before bystanders separated them. Gaetz briefly interrupted a live interview McCarthy was giving to ask mockingly whether the RNC and Trump campaigns would allow him to address the thousands of attendees. “What night are you speaking? Are you speaking tonight?” Gaetz said while interrupting McCarthy’s live interview. “Hey, if you took that stage, you would get booed off of it! You would get booed off the stage.”

Trump supporters in Florida’s The Villages assembled in golf carts over the weekend in order to send a message to a group of Kamala Harris supporters who organized a golf cart rally of their own earlier this week.

Despite the fact that large swaths of Florida were under weather advisories due to an approaching tropical storm, turnout for the rally was reportedly massive. “There are around 1,000 carts here right now and the mood is electric,” Valerie Jamieson, co-president of The Villages MAGA Club, told local outlet Gulf Live just ahead of the parade’s 1 p.m. start time.

Footage shows hundreds of golf carts decked out in American flags and Trump gear assembled as far as the eye can see ahead of the rally. Some carts displayed signs reading “Kamala, You’re Fired” and “Make America Great Again” while others played patriotic music.

U.S. Rep. Daniel Webster (R-FL) was also spotted amongst the crowd.

Last weekend, a much smaller group of Kamala Harris supporters gathered in the retirement community for a rally of their own. The event, titled “Cat Ladies For Kamala,” drew a few dozen  Harris supporters in the predominantly conservative community.

“Young people are energized and so are we,” said Villages resident Joyce Wiegand. “I’m really glad she does appeal to young people, because they’ve been marginalized in voting for years,” added Karen Wink, another Harris rally goer.

Gulf Live noted that 70 percent of registered voters in Sumter County, of which a portion of The Villages is located in, vote Republican. Trump visited the retirement community twice, becoming the first sitting president to do so.

Former President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron, received a standing ovation from 45,000 Trump supporters at his father’s renowned golf course in Doral, Florida.

The former president was joined by a number of Florida Republicans, including Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, a number of U.S. representatives from the Florida delegation, and a number of additional key political figures in the sunshine state, for Tuesday’s highly anticipated rally. Tuesday’s event has drawn increased viewership due to the possibility of Trump’s long-awaited vice-presidential nominee being revealed.

Trump was also joined by members of the Trump family, including his oldest sons Donald Jr. and Eric, both of whom addressed the crowd before the former president took the stage shortly after 7 p.m. Eastern Time.

As Trump was giving shout outs to lawmakers and family members in attendance, the presidential frontrunner paused to introduce Barron, 18, for the first time at a political rally. “And a very young man, this is a young man, he just turned 18,” Trump said, at which point supporters began to stand up and cheer.

“Oh, look at this. A very young man who is now going to college, got into every college he wanted to, and he’s a very good guy I’ll tell you. You know I’m not allowed to call them boy but he is my boy he’s my boy they’re all my boys right? When you have sons they can be any age they’re your boy they’re always going to be and he’s a very special guy. Barron Trump,” the former president introduced before asking his youngest son to stand up.

During Tuesday night’s rally, Trump challenged “sleepy Joe” to another debate later this week and offered him a chance to “redeem himself.”

“Let’s do another debate this week so that sleepy Joe Biden can prove to everyone all over the world that he has what it takes to be president. But this time it will be man to man, no moderators, no holds barred,” the former president declared.

Trump also challenged his chief political rival to settle the debate over their respective golf skillsets.

“And in the debate, Sleepy Joe also declared that he wanted to test his skills and stamina against mine on the golf course. Can you believe this?” Trump told the Florida crowd.

“That’s why this evening, I am also, and this is in honor of you and everybody here, there’s 45,000 people. That’s a lot of people. I’m also officially challenging Crooked Joe to an 18-hole golf match right here. On Doral’s Blue Monster, considered one of the greatest tournament golf courses anywhere in the world, one of the great courses of the world,” the former president went on to say.
