CNN host Dana Bash pressed Minnesota Governor Tim Walz over verifiable lies he has told regarding his service record in what was the first interview for Vice President Kamala Harris since she became the de-facto Democratic presidential nominee nearly 40 days ago. Bash also pressed Harris over a number of recent flip-flops on border and energy policy.

Governor Walz has been under in recent weeks due to questions surrounding his military service record. Soldiers from his unit with the Minnesota National Guard have questioned the circumstances surrounding his retirement just before a deployment to Iraq, and have noted that he has misrepresented his rank while on the campaign trail.

The Minnesota National Guard later confirmed that Walz has misrepresented his rank.

Walz  has also claimed to have “carried weapons of war,” during a war despite never having deployed to a combat zone.

“You said that you carried weapons in war, but you have never deployed actually in a war zone. A campaign official said that you misspoke. Did you?” Bash asked.

Walz refused to answer the question directly, instead directing the conversation to the topic of mass shootings. “Well, first of all, I’m incredibly proud. I’ve done 24 years of wearing the uniform of this country. Equally proud of my service in a public school classroom, whether it’s Congress or the governor. My record speaks for itself,” the Minnesota governor said.

“But I think people are coming to get to know me. I speak like they do. I speak candidly. I wear my emotions on my sleeves and I speak especially passionately about our children being shot in schools and around guns. So I think people know me. They know who I am. They know where my heart is and again, my record has been out there for over 40 years to speak for itself,” he continued.

Bash followed up by reiterating her question on the “weapons of war” controversy. “Did you misspeak as the campaign has said?” the CNN host asked.  “Yeah, I said we were talking about, in this case, this was after a school shooting, the ideas of carrying these weapons of war,” Walz replied.

Bash also pressed Walz over his past DUI arrest and inconsistencies regarding his use of IVF.

Elsewhere in the interview, Bash asked Vice President Harris about her past statements on energy, which include support for a ban on fracking and support for the Green New Deal.

“Do you still want to ban fracking?” Bash asked.

“No, and I made that clear on the debate stage in 2020. That I would not ban fracking. As vice president, I did not ban fracking. As president, I will not ban fracking,” Harris replied.

The CNN host followed up by pointing out that Harris vowed to ban fracking while campaigning for president in 2019. “In 2019, I believe, at a town hall, you said, you were asked, would you commit to implementing a federal ban on fracking on your first day in office? And you said,’ there’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking. So yes.’ So it changed in that campaign?” Bash asked.

“In 2020, I made very clear where I stand. We are in 2024 and I’ve not changed that In 2020, I made very clear where I stand,” the vice president replied, once again disavowing her previous position.

Vice President Kamala Harris delivered yet another one of her signature “word salads” when asked what she would do on day one should she be elected president in November.

In her first interview since becoming the de-facto Democratic Party nominee nearly 40 days ago, Harris sat down with a left-leaning outlet in CNN. The interview has been widely viewed as unusual given the fact that Harris was flanked by her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, meaning that she has yet to sit for a solo interview.

Host Dana Bash began by asking the vice president would she would do in her first day in the Oval Office.

“Well, there are a number of things. I will tell you first and foremost, one of my highest priorities is to do what we can to support and strengthen the middle class. When I look at the aspirations, the goals, the ambitions of the American people, I think that people are ready for a new way forward, in a way that generations of Americans have been fueled by hope and by optimism,” Harris replied without answering the question.

“I think sadly in the last decade we have had in the former president someone who has really been pushing an agenda and an environment that is about diminishing the character and the strength of who we are as Americans, really dividing our nation, and I think people are ready to turn the page on that,” Harris continued.

Bash was eventually forced to once again Harris what she would do on day one, at which point she listed a number of policy goals that would need to pass through Congress.

“Day one, it’s going to be about, one, implementing my plan for what I call an opportunity economy. I’ve already laid out a number of proposals in that regard, which include what we’re going to do to bring down the cost of everyday goods, what we’re going to do to invest in families, for example extending the child tax credit to $6,000 for families for the first year of their child’s life,” Harris answered.

While the Harris-Walz Campaign has yet to release a formal policy plan despite early voting starting in just a few weeks, Harris has released a number of vague policy goals, including price-fixing on food items and $25,000 tax credits for “first generation home buyers.”

Vice President Kamala Harris delivered multiple vague, rambling answers in the brief snippets of what will be her first major interview since becoming the de-facto Democratic nominee, which is set to air at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday.

In an early preview of the interview released by CNN, Harris was asked how she will seek to differentiate herself from her own administration and its policies. Harris — who has yet to release a formal policy platform — has turned her back on a number of Biden-Harris Administration policies in recent weeks, including electric vehicle mandates and opposition to a border wall.

“Generally speaking, how should voters look at some of the changes that you’ve made, that you’ve explained some of here, in your policy?” Bash asked.

“Dana, I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed. You mentioned the Green New Deal. I have always believed, and I have worked on it, that the climate crisis is real, that it is an urgent matter to which we should apply metrics that include holding ourselves to deadlines around time,” Harris replied.

“We did that with the Inflation Reduction Act. We have set goals for the United States of America and by extension the globe around when we should meet certain standards for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions as an example.”

Harris also committed to appointing “a Republican” to her cabinet, though she did not elaborate further.

The Democratic Party has embraced a number of former Republican officials in recent years, mostly from the Bush Administration. After comparing President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney to Adolf Hitler for more than a decade, the party has embraced the Cheney family in recent years.

Liz Cheney served as a “Republican” representative for the partisan January 6 Committee, which was formed in defiance of House rules. Cheney was not supported by Republican voters, however, as evidenced by her crushing defeat to current U.S. Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY) in the GOP primary.

In what could spell disaster for Democrats, a new Emerson College/The Hill poll has dropped a bombshell in Wisconsin—one of the most crucial swing states in the upcoming election. The latest numbers are in, and they’re not looking good for Vice President Kamala Harris.

The poll revealed that former President Donald Trump has edged ahead with 50% of the vote, while Harris lags just behind at 49%. While a 1% difference might not seem earth-shattering, it’s the trend that’s causing alarm bells to ring in Democrat circles.

Before the Democratic National Convention (DNC), Harris was leading Trump by 1% in the same poll. This means she’s seen a 2% drop, flipping the state in Trump’s favor. For a state as fiercely contested as Wisconsin, even the slightest shift can have massive implications.

The numbers are particularly worrisome given Emerson College’s polling history. Back in 2020, their final poll had Joe Biden ahead by a comfortable 8% margin. However, the actual results showed a much tighter race, with the poll overstating Biden’s lead by a staggering 7.4%. If the current poll follows a similar pattern, the Democrats could be in for a rude awakening come election day.

The U.S. Attorney in the Western District of Pennsylvania has empaneled a grand jury to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13, which killed retired firefighter Corey Comperatore and wounded three others, including Trump. According to a report from Human Events, a records request from America First Legal was denied because the records in question are “within the scope of a grand jury subpoena.”

The letter, which was penned by the Community College of Allegheny County in response to attorney Wally Zimolong, denied a request for deceased gunman Thomas Matthew-Crooks’ records pertaining to his student files, records, documents, communication, disciplinary records, or other data containing his name.

“Please be advised that your request is denied on the basis that it requests records that relate to an ongoing criminal investigation, which are exempt from disclosure,” the letter reads.

“Specifically,” the letter continues, “the records that you have requested are within the scope of a grand jury subpoena issued to CCAC by the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, and which the U.S. Attorney’s Office has confirmed relate to an ongoing criminal investigation.”

The purpose of the grand jury remains unclear, though they are generally used to consider criminal charges against a target or range of targets. The report from Human Events is the first indication that charges are being considered in relation to the shooting.

Human Events further reported that the Crooks family has sought legal representation. A number of Secret service agents from the Pittsburgh Field Office, which covers the Butler, Pennsylvania region, have also been placed on leave in the aftermath of the assassination attempt.

In addition to the report, the FBI also shared new information relating to the investigation into Crooks. During a small press conference attended by a handful of reporters, the FBI revealed that Crooks made a number of searches relating to fertilizer bombs and “how do remote detonators work.

“Kevin Rojek, head of the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office, told reporters that Crooks engaged in weeks of planning for the event. Crooks became “hyper-focused” on Trump’s campaign rally in Butler once it was announced, Rojek said.

“When this event was announced, the Trump rally was announced, early in July, he became hyper-focused on that specific event and looked at it as a target of opportunity,” he added.

The letter, addressed to Authentic Campaigns CEO Michael Nellis, stated, “The Committee is continuing to conduct oversight of politically motivated prosecutions by state and local officials. Popularly elected prosecutors, such as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, have engaged in an unprecedented abuse of authority by prosecuting a former President of the United States and current nominee for that office.”

The letter goes on to say that it is the Committee’s belief that the involvement of Judge Merchan’s daughter in such a politically charged environment created the appearance of impropriety. The Committee had previously requested information and documents from Loren Merchan and Authentic Campaigns, but after repeated refusals to comply voluntarily, they were left to issue the subpoena.

“Did Authentic Campaigns service Donald Trump’s political adversaries? If yes, whether it’s Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, or Adam Schiff, then the owners and people who work at the company can’t have relatives serving as judges in cases against Donald Trump. Period,” the committee wrote on X on August 16th.

Judge Juan Merchan was the key figure in the legal proceedings against Trump. He presided over the Manhattan criminal case involving allegations that Trump falsified business records related to hush-money payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign. Trump was charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying records, a case brought forward by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

The scrutiny surrounding Judge Merchan and his daughter has further fueled claims from Trump and his supporters that the charges against him are part of the politically motivated witch hunt. His very first executive order created a DEI council, and his administration has been relentless in pushing for more progressive education policies, despite resistance from those who believe these efforts are divisive.

The policies, including the new teacher licensing rules, are driving the state’s education system in a dangerous direction. During Walz’s time in office, Minnesota has seen a troubling decline in student achievement, outpacing the rest of the nation. Notably, fourth-grade reading scores have fallen below the national average for the first time in recorded history, according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

The piece also critiqued the introduction of new social studies standards and ethnic studies into the curriculum, labeling them as ideologically driven. The state’s national education rankings have also dropped, with Minnesota falling from 5th place in 2018 to 17th in recent assessments.

The Bidens, fresh off a visit to Vandenberg Space Force Base, where Joe Biden addressed military personnel before heading to yet another nine-day vacation in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, stopped in Los Olivos for a brief shopping spree. However, what should have been a routine pit stop quickly escalated into chaos.

In the clip, Secret Service agents can be seen forcefully pushing bystanders out of the way as Jill Biden, Hunter, and other family members make their way through the quaint town. “Out of the way! Move! Now! Now!” one agent can be heard shouting as locals scrambled to clear the path.

The First Lady, dressed casually for her shopping trip, appeared unfazed by the commotion. Many questioned the need for such a heavy-handed approach in a small, peaceful town known for its wineries and art galleries. Just last year, she admitted to feeling a sense of “power” as motorcades cleared entire freeways for her travels, a comment that did not sit well with taxpayers footing the bill for the Biden family’s frequent trips.

The nine-day vacation in Delaware was just the latest in a series of trips that have raised eyebrows, as millions of dollars are spent on planes, helicopters, and motorcades to ferry the First Family around. Meanwhile, Biden continues his vacation in Rehoboth Beach, far removed from the growing storm of criticism.

The June 27 debate set off alarm bells within the Democrat Party, and questions over whether Joe would stick it out as the Democratic nominee turned into demands that he step down. But Jill Biden wasn’t having any of it. When reached by phone in June at Camp David, where the Biden clan was spending the weekend, she told Vogue they “will not let those 90 minutes define the four years he’s been president. We will continue to fight.” She didn’t stop there, adding that Joe would “always do what’s best for the country.”

“They underestimate our power because they don’t understand it,” the first lady told a crowd in June. “They see our empathy and compassion as a weakness. But we know they’re what give us the clarity to fight for what’s right.”

“If you want to know what power feels like, try to get yourself driven around in a motorcade,” Vogue wrote. “Flashing police chaperone lights form a perimeter as you blaze down an empty highway, waiting cars backed up on entry ramps as you pass. It’s as if the world is holding its breath. For you. Also, rules don’t apply: On a cool spring day, driving down suburban Minneapolis side streets, we run red lights and whip round curves so fast I can barely take in the commonplace American view.”
