Vice President Kamala Harris delivered yet another one of her signature “word salads” when asked what she would do on day one should she be elected president in November.

In her first interview since becoming the de-facto Democratic Party nominee nearly 40 days ago, Harris sat down with a left-leaning outlet in CNN. The interview has been widely viewed as unusual given the fact that Harris was flanked by her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, meaning that she has yet to sit for a solo interview.

The CNN interview was also pre-taped.

Host Dana Bash began by asking the vice president would she would do in her first day in the Oval Office.

“Well, there are a number of things. I will tell you first and foremost, one of my highest priorities is to do what we can to support and strengthen the middle class. When I look at the aspirations, the goals, the ambitions of the American people, I think that people are ready for a new way forward, in a way that generations of Americans have been fueled by hope and by optimism,” Harris replied without answering the question.

“I think sadly in the last decade we have had in the former president someone who has really been pushing an agenda and an environment that is about diminishing the character and the strength of who we are as Americans, really dividing our nation, and I think people are ready to turn the page on that,” Harris continued.

Bash was eventually forced to once again Harris what she would do on day one, at which point she listed a number of policy goals that would need to pass through Congress.

“Day one, it’s going to be about, one, implementing my plan for what I call an opportunity economy. I’ve already laid out a number of proposals in that regard, which include what we’re going to do to bring down the cost of everyday goods, what we’re going to do to invest in families, for example extending the child tax credit to $6,000 for families for the first year of their child’s life,” Harris answered.

While the Harris-Walz Campaign has yet to release a formal policy plan despite early voting starting in just a few weeks, Harris has released a number of vague policy goals, including price-fixing on food items and $25,000 tax credits for “first generation home buyers.”

Vice President Kamala Harris delivered multiple vague, rambling answers in the brief snippets of what will be her first major interview since becoming the de-facto Democratic nominee, which is set to air at 9 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday.

Harris was joined by her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, for her first interview in more than 30 days. The interview was conducted by CNN’s Dana Bash, who has made a number of pro-Biden-Harris and anti-Trump statements in the past.

Leading Trump advisor Jason Miller has reported that the pre-taped interview will be just 18 minutes long.

In an early preview of the interview released by CNN, Harris was asked how she will seek to differentiate herself from her own administration and its policies. Harris — who has yet to release a formal policy platform — has turned her back on a number of Biden-Harris Administration policies in recent weeks, including electric vehicle mandates and opposition to a border wall.

“Generally speaking, how should voters look at some of the changes that you’ve made, that you’ve explained some of here, in your policy?” Bash asked.

“Dana, I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed. You mentioned the Green New Deal. I have always believed, and I have worked on it, that the climate crisis is real, that it is an urgent matter to which we should apply metrics that include holding ourselves to deadlines around time,” Harris replied.

“We did that with the Inflation Reduction Act. We have set goals for the United States of America and by extension the globe around when we should meet certain standards for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions as an example.”

Harris also committed to appointing “a Republican” to her cabinet, though she did not elaborate further.

The Democratic Party has embraced a number of former Republican officials in recent years, mostly from the Bush Administration. After comparing President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney to Adolf Hitler for more than a decade, the party has embraced the Cheney family in recent years.

Liz Cheney served as a “Republican” representative for the partisan January 6 Committee, which was formed in defiance of House rules. Cheney was not supported by Republican voters, however, as evidenced by her crushing defeat to current U.S. Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY) in the GOP primary.

Six years after being shown the door by NBC News, Megyn Kelly is getting the last laugh.

Kelly made an illustrious career for herself at Fox News between 2004 and 2017, signing off as one of the network’s most popular evening anchors in history. Her departure came at the height of the #MeToo movement when allegations of sexual harassment led to the firing of Fox co-founder Roger Ailes, and she gained prominence for going public about Ailes’s attempts to forcibly kiss her and repeatedly demanding she send nude photos of herself to him. She transitioned to host and correspondent duties at NBC News but was dismissed in 2018 after comments about blackface Halloween costumes. Media reports at the time show she netted a $30 million settlement with the network as a result.

Since then, Kelly has built her own brand on SiriusXM where “The Megyn Kelly Show” dominates satellite radio’s talk show charts. Semafor reported on the latest ratings which show the 53-year-old better positioned than ever to be one of the most influential voices in conservative news. “According to audience figures highlighted by Kelly’s team for Semafor, Kelly’s show is now not only one of the most listened-to programs on SiriusXM, but it’s also one of the top ten podcasts in the country and its viewership is eclipsing that of some mainstream news outlets on YouTube,” the outlet noted.

The decision to launch her own program came after a lengthy discussion with Ben Shapiro, a conservative kingmaker who launched his own company, The Daily Wire, in 2015. Kelly recounted that Shapiro convinced her that striking out on his own was the best career decision he ever made, and he’s been able to net outsized profits by streamlining his staff. “Kelly boasts that despite the fact that she only has six staffers, she has managed to get numbers that put her in the range of the accounts of legacy media outlets,” Semafor noted. “The Megyn Kelly Show’s YouTube channel, which has 2.3 million subscribers, had 116.8 million views in July — more views than the official channels for NBC News (78 million) CBS News (83 million), Sky News (87 million), the BBC News (72 million) and CNBC (17 million).”

Kelly still offers free partial programming on YouTube where she says her audience welcomes the familiar feel of seeing her on camera. “On-camera is how people are used to getting their news from me, so it likely feels familiar,” she told the outlet. She joked, “I am also half Italian, half Irish, so if you choose to watch the show, you will definitely glean something from the hand gestures and facial expressions that you might not always pick up on from listening alone. With the news what it is these days, sometimes an eye-roll, forehead slap, or pen-throw is absolutely required.”

Separations between superstar journalists and the legacy media have become more pronounced, most notably with the 2023 termination of former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. His firing came shortly after a landmark nine-figure settlement with Dominion Voting Systems to settle a lawsuit that Carlson and others used their platforms at the network to defame the company’s voting machines used in the 2020 elections. Carlson rebranded on X, releasing free hour-long shows before launching his own subscription service. He has interviewed former President Donald Trump and leading voices in conservative politics and was even rumored to be on the former president’s shortlist for a vice presidential pick.

At the time, Kelly encouraged her former colleague to “breach the contract” binding him to Fox News, which the network attempted to enforce in a bid to sideline him through the 2024 election. “He should come out. He should talk. He should start a rival news network. He should quit. He should forfeit the money,” Kelly said. “He’ll make more money anyway.”

Media entrepreneurism is not confined to conservatives, either. Don Lemon, the longtime CNN host who was fired earlier this year for a number of crude remarks about Nikki Haley and other Republican women, has since begun to produce his own show on X until he had a falling out with owner Elon Musk following their interview. CNN contributor Scott Jennings poked fun at Vice President Kamala Harris over the campaign’s decision to bring her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, along for her long awaited interview with CNN.

After more than 30 days, the Harris Campaign announced Tuesday that Harris and Walz have sat for a pre-taped interview with the left-leaning network. The Trump Campaign and conservative critics have long criticized Harris over her refusal to speak with the press or sit for an interview, pointing to the fact that Trump has done multiple long-form podcasts, interviews and press conferences since Harris became the de-facto nominee.

During an on-air segment with Anderson Cooper, CNN’s Scott Jennings mocked Harris over her reluctance to sit for an interview with Dana Bash, who has referred to former President Donald Trump as a “sexist,” amplified the Russian collusion hoax and has praised the Biden-Harris Administration on numerous occasions.

“Scott, it’s the first time the vice president going to be sitting down for an interview. She’s doing it with her vice-presidential candidate, Tim Walz. Do you think that blunts attacks from Republicans or is the line now going to be, well, why isn’t she doing it by yourself?” Cooper asked.

“Yes, I do think people are going to bring that up,” Jennings replied.

“Look, I have great confidence and Dana and CNN to do this. I think it’s incredibly weak, weak sauce to show up with your running mate. The fact that they don’t have enough confidence in her to let her sit herself the actual top of the ticket and do a single interview,” he continued. Jennings further speculated that the decision points to a growing lack of confidence in Harris’ abilities despite consistent efforts to paint the picture of enthusiasm behind the campaign.

“So yes, I think Republicans are going to think it’s pretty weak to show up with effectively someone to take up half the time,” he said.

In a follow-up X post, Jennings mocked Harris for bringing her “emotional support animal” to the interview.

According to a report from Politico, some Harris staffers are concerned that sending either Harris or Walz out for a solo interview could prove disastrous due to a lack of a definitive policy platform. Kelly also mocked the notion that Collins is a “star” at all. “I’m sorry, but she’s only a star with the leftists,” she added. A former high-level Justice Department official said on Tuesday that he believes Jack Smith unknowingly inserted a “land mine” into his J6 case against former President Donald Trump that could blow up in his face.

Jim Trusty, the former chief of the DOJ’s arm to combat organized crime and gangs, said the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on presidential immunity for “official acts” specifically refers to how the introduction of “immunized” evidence can play a role in tainting a jury’s perception of a defendant. This is especially important considering arguments by lawyers for Trump that Smith and Washington, D.C. federal Judge Tanya Chutkan have already outlined evidence against the former president that should have been inadmissible. Speaking about the high court, Trusty said, “The opinion says not just that immunized information is not proper before the court at trial, but that it contaminates the grand jury process if you include that information in pursuing an indictment.”

In other words, the Biden prosecutor has already disclosed evidence against President Trump that will make a fair trial impossible. “That’s a huge landmine,” Trusty continued. “He’s trying to get in front of it before Judge Chutkan has to rule on all of these acts to decide which stuff is fair game or which stuff isn’t. But the problem is, if he guesses wrong in one instance – if he says ‘Oh, the president was consulting Mike Pence, the president of the Senate, not the vice president’ as part of this new indictment – then if he gets it wrong once, he’s got the same problem. He’s gotta go back to the grand jury, re-indict for the third time, based on this ruling from the Supreme Court.”

Pressed by the host about how complicated it now is to charge any current or former president with any action they may have taken as a candidate, Trusty said America’s founding document is rather clear on the matter. “The Constitution seems to suggest… that we don’t want to have our presidents hobbled with constant fear or prosecution by state and federal prosecutors,” he said.

Smith on Tuesday filed a second, revised indictment against President Trump asserting he directed Vice President Mike Pence to refuse to certify the results of the 2020 election. Specific changes included references to Pence as “President of the Senate” rather than vice president, one of the changes that observers believe Smith made in order to escape the umbrella granting presidents broad immunity for official acts. Any conversations between Trump and Pence while in office would almost certainly be considered so.

Even if Smith found greater success with the Obama-appointed judge a second time around, his changes may be for naught: the case had been effectively frozen since December as President Trump’s appeal for immunity snaked its way through federal courts before the Supreme Court’s ruling in June. The chance of a judgment before the November election is all but dead, and if Trump wins he is expected to order the DOJ to fire Smith and terminate the case.

But her decision to bring along running mate Tim Walz is being panned by CNN analyst Scott Jennings who called the move for what it is: “weak sauce.”

She was kept to tightly scripted rallies and teleprompters and only briefly exchanged words with Fox News’s Peter Doocy who jokingly got in a question asking when he would get his own one-on-one interview with her. Harris laughed and shrugged as aides shuttled her past reporters and out a side door. The announcement of her CNN interview is in keeping with a previous promise by her spokesman that an interview would occur by the end of the month, though the special request that Walz be included has raised eyebrows among observers.

Polls show that Vice President Harris did not experience a post-convention bump following her time in Chicago last week: national surveys have her trailing, tied, or barely ahead of Trump in battleground states. In addition, her team is intimately aware of how badly President Biden’s image was tattered after a disastrous sit-down interview with NBC News’s Lester Holt after an even worse debate performance in June. Trump, in contrast, has done a number of high-profile, hour-long media appearances where he accuses Harris of purposely hiding from tough questions and coasting to November. Even getting the vice president to agree to a first debate has been a problem: earlier this week the Harris campaign demanded that ABC News leave microphones unmuted in hopes that Trump will turn off voters by interrupting her. Trump, who has already agreed to debate on ABC despite his ongoing lawsuit against George Stephanopoulos, accused her of trying to change the terms so she can avoid skipping a debate altogether.

Vice President Kamala Harris has finally agreed to sit for her first sit-down interview since becoming the de-facto Democratic presidential nominee following President Biden’s unprecedented decision to suspend his re-election campaign after the primary process had concluded.

The Trump Campaign has repeatedly attacked Harris over her refusal to sit for an interview. In the 39 days since she became the de-facto nominee, Harris has yet to sit for a formal interview or take questions at a press conference. In early August, the Harris Campaign did say she would be sitting for an interview by the end of the month, though the campaign had not provided additional details for weeks.

On Tuesday, Harris confirmed that she will be sitting for an interview with CNN, a left-leaning network whose hosts and reporters have repeatedly expressed anti-Trump opinions.

Social media users responded with outrage and ridicule upon learning that after more than a month, Harris appears incapable of speaking to the media on her own, even when the host has referred to her political opponent as a “sexist,” urged the Supreme Court to disqualify Trump from the ballot, and praised the Biden-Harris Administration, as Dana Bash has.

During the third night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, CNN veteran Dana Bash inadvertently roasted her own party, focusing on the contrast in the Democrat definition of masculinity.
