Newly released bodycam footage has emerged from the July 13 rally of former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, displaying a heated exchange between local law enforcement officers concerning the Secret Service. The footage, obtained by Judicial Watch, captured the critical moments of the thwarted assassination attempt on Trump.

The video begins with a police officer urgently requesting backup, signaling the onset of the chaotic events that would unfold. However, the top revelation from the newly-released footage is the exposure of a breakdown in coordination that could have had dire consequences. A frustrated officer is heard criticizing the Secret Service’s deployment strategy, or lack thereof, in the clip: “I f*cking told them they need to post the guys f*cking over here! I told them at the f*cking, the Secret Service, I told them that f*cking Tuesday. I told them to post f*cking guys over here!”

The lack of personnel in critical areas was a recurring theme in the footage, which documented the officers’ growing frustration. “I wasn’t even concerned about it because I thought someone was on the roof,” one officer admitted.  “I bet he climbed up here… I bet he climbed the wall,” said one of the officers.

One officer’s exasperation is palpable as he recounts his interactions with the Secret Service, which seemed to initially acknowledge the need for increased security: “I thought we were going to post guys over here. I talked to the Secret Service guys, they were like ‘Yeah no problem, we’re going to post guys over here.’”

The footage concludes with officers responding to the aftermath, trying to make sense of the situation and coordinate further action. The footage also provided a new angle of Thomas Matthew Crooks’ body on the roof. Crooks, a 20-year-old from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, fired eight rounds from an AR–15–style rifle from the roof of a nearby building on July 13.

Trump was struck in the upper right ear but managed to avoid more severe injury. In addition to injuring Trump, Crooks killed one rally attendee, Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old former fire chief, and critically wounded two others. Crooks was eventually shot and killed by the U.S. Secret Service’s Counter Sniper Team.

The event unfolded at an open rally held as part of Trump’s campaign for the 2024 presidential election. Security at the rally included both state police and Secret Service agents, who had positioned snipers in nearby buildings. However, Crooks managed to position himself undetected on a roof, from where he carried out the attack. Witnesses reported seeing him on the roof with a rifle shortly before the shooting began.

Despite increased security measures due to prior intelligence suggesting threats against Trump, Crooks was able to evade detection until it was too late. Trump was treated at a nearby hospital and released later that day in stable condition. The assassination attempt did not deter Trump from making a public appearance just two days later at the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where he was seen wearing a bandage over his ear.

The attack led to widespread criticism of the security arrangements at the rally, particularly concerning lapses that allowed Crooks to position himself without detection. Kimberly Cheatle, the Director of the Secret Service, resigned ten days later. In the aftermath, Trump’s campaign organized a fundraising effort for the victims’ families, raising over $2 million.

The footage, provided through the Butler Township Police captured the intense confrontation on the roof of the AGR building where the suspect, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was stationed.

The video, recorded last month during the Trump campaign rally, displayed the harrowing seconds before Crooks, armed with a DPMS AR-15 rifle, opened fire. The gunfire resulted in the tragic death of Corey Comparatore and injury to two others, while a bullet grazed former President Trump’s ear.

The footage begins with one Butler Township police officer being hoisted onto the building’s roof by another before Crooks turns his gun on the officer, and all hell breaks loose. Their body cameras flicker with urgency as they navigate the building, shouting commands and coordinating with other units. Officers repeatedly called for a ladder to reach Crooks’ position due to the chaotic nature of the situation.

Throughout the recording, viewers can hear the officers’ frantic communication. “He’s straight up,” one officer is heard saying, signaling Crooks’ exact location. Another clip shows an officer warning, “He’s laying down, he’s going north, next building over,” as they tried to pin down the suspect’s movements. “He’s got glasses, long hair,” the officer said.

Crooks unleashed chaos on July 13 when he attempted to assassinate former President Trump at a packed rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Crooks opened fire from a nearby rooftop, grazing Trump’s ear and tragically killing one rally-goer while leaving two others critically wounded. He was taken down by a Secret Service sniper, ending the rampage. Hailing from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, Crooks was a reclusive figure, excelling in academics and graduating with honors from his high school. Described by classmates as the quiet type, Crooks faced his share of bullying over the years. He had a knack for chess and video games and held an associate degree in engineering science from the Community College of Allegheny County.

The day before the attack, Crooks had been at a shooting range, honing his skills. He had also searched the web for information on Trump and other high-profile figures and events, as well as details about depressive disorders and historical shootings. When the police finally cornered him, they found bomb-making materials in his car and residence. Crooks once donated $15 to a Democrat voter turnout initiative and was registered as a Republican. He had voted only once, in the 2022 midterm elections.

Crooks was under surveillance well over an hour before the attack, indicating a lapse in security response. Despite this, the Secret Service failed to man certain strategic positions and Crooks had earlier surveyed the rally site with a drone—something the Secret Service had failed to do due to an alleged technical issue.

New police bodycam footage of a fatal officer-involved shooting just outside the Republican National Convention perimeter in Milwaukee has been released.

Footage shows a group of police officers discussing how to handle clashing groups of protesters throughout the week when one of them notices that two men were fighting in the middle of the street. “He’s got a knife,” one of the officers can be heard saying, at which point several officers converged on the fight.

Multiple officers yelled “drop the knife” while at least one identified themselves as officers. One of the men– who has been identified as Samuel Sharpe — was holding a knife in each of his hands. When he charged at the other man, police opened fire.

Sharpe’s family stated that he chose to live in a tent community, though he still kept in touch with them. In recent days, the 43-year-old had told his family that a man had been threatening him. He had left the tent community, though he had returned to get his dog.

Sharpe’s brother told FOX 6 that the deceased had multiple sclerosis and struggled to stand. He does not believe that his brother was the aggressor in Tuesday’s fatal encounter.

“I believe my brother was defending himself. If anything he was defending himself,” he said. “If you’ve ever seen someone with advanced MS, it’s very laborious to walk, anything like that. It’s like putting a child against an adult. A toddler that barely knows how to walk. He ain’t going to get away. The man that was in that video knew all of that information as well.”

The officers involved in the shooting were in from Columbus, Ohio in order to assist with convention security.

Sharpe’s death prompted protests in Milwaukee, Police Chief Jeffrey Norman told Fox 6.
