The infamous “Squad” is down another member Wednesday morning after Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-MN) lost her Democratic primary. In a concession speech free of contrition or self-reflection, the far-left progressive instead appeared to issue a veiled threat against voters who gave her the boot and fair-weather friends who she thinks didn’t do enough in her hour of need.

Microphone in hand, Bush stormed back and forth across a stage at an Election night rally with supporters late Tuesday night. There, she promised her critics would finally see “the other Cori,” claiming her loss has only “radicalized” her. “Let’s be clear! Let’s be clear!” the St. Louis Democrat shouted as she grabbed the hands of fans. “Let’s talk about what it really is. Because see, now I don’t have to worry about some strings that I have attached, that as much as I love my job, but all they did was radicalize me, so now they gonna be afraid!” The audience of left-wing activists erupted in cheers. “They’re going to see this other Cori, this other side,” she continued.

Bush’s rejection by voters in her deep-blue district was a circular end to her career in elected office. She rose to prominence locally following some of the early Black Lives Matter protests in 2014, leveraging her newfound street cred into a successful run for Congress predicated on the 2020 death of George Floyd. Bush was defeated by Wesley Bell, a pragmatic progressive and former prosecutor who promised a fresh approach to lawmaking without the self-aggrandizing stances of the “Squad.” His campaign was buttressed by over $15 million in spending by AIPAC and pro-Israel forces determined to unseat a lawmaker who has been equivocal about her opposition to Hamas. At one point, she feigned knowledge about whether Hamas qualified as a terrorist organization, forcing a spokesperson to later walk back her remarks.

A number of other self-inflicted wounds exacerbated her political exposure. In January, news surfaced of a Justice Department criminal investigation into Bush’s six-figure expenditures to a security officer with no credentials or formal job description and who had a history of making severely antisemitic statements. She later married another bodyguard at a private ceremony. She became known for drawing headlines more than support for bills, struggling to explain her plans for leveling the federal tax code and conflating Memorial Day with Veterans Day in a social media post that was later deleted.

Other Squad members, including Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) do not face competitive elections this cycle. However, the loss of two key allies may force the progressive caucus to retreat and regroup around a new strategy that may focus more on results and less on rhetoric.

Nearly half of the infamous “Squad” members in Congress have been named in a lawsuit alleging they contributed to a climate of fear for Jewish New Yorkers who couldn’t walk the campus of Columbia University during the height of the pro-Palestinian encampments.

The New York Post reported on a class-action suit that accuses Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) of both “inciting and encouraging” long-term demonstrations that in some cases became violent, filled with antisemitic chants and physical confrontations with Jewish students simply crossing the demarcation lines of encampments on their college campuses. Plaintiffs, comprised of five anonymous students, are also suing at least a dozen groups they accuse of instigating the anti-Israel riots including the notoriously far-left group Within Our Lifetime. The five students labeled Omar, Bowman, and AOC “outside champions” for the ruckus that ensued, including violent encounters with police and campus officers.

Responding to the takeover of Columbia’s Hamilton Hall, AOC wrote on X, “If any kid is hurt tonight, responsibility will fall on the mayor and univ presidents,” calling it “a nightmare in the making.” The occupation of a central university building fixed public attention on the campus as masked protestors threw rocks, chanted “Free Palestine!” and burned an Israeli flag while barricading themselves inside. Citing the arrest of Rep. Omar’s daughter Isra Hirsi, the plaintiffs allege Squad members were intimately aware of the chaos ensuing and the jeopardy it posed to Jewish students who make up more than one in five among the university’s student body. The three Squad members also walked the grounds of the campus in April “and participated in the encampment,” the plaintiffs claim, adding to their culpability in what transpired.

“The Gaza Encampment was extreme and outrageous conduct. It was illegal. It violated university rules. Its occupants harassed, followed, physically blocked, intimidated, and bullied Jewish students,” the students said in the litigation. The encampment and their cheerleaders “not only consciously disregarded the rights of others, but the impact on the rights of others was the point of the protest: the more disruption [they] could cause for the University and the [students], the more leverage they thought they would have for their agenda,” according to the lawsuit. Two of the five students are Jewish, they explain, but all are afraid to reveal their names for fear of intimidation by their fellow students.

Describing the climate of fear they live under today, one student, identified as “Eric Doe,” said the fallout from the encampments “felt like he was living under an ominous cloud of doubt and uncertainty as he waited for the protestors or administration’s next move that would further impact his studies and life on campus.” Another, going by “William Doe,” said his senior year expo was canceled as a result of the demonstrations while a third known as “Michael Doe,” alleges he was told “Keep walking Zionist” by one of the protestors who followed him past Columbia’s encampment. “Tim Doe,” another Jewish student, “because he did not feel safe,” told the Post, “during the protests, I witnessed numerous offensive and antisemitic signs and messages, including antisemitic skunk posters with the Star of David.”

“In one instance, I was walking with my non-Jewish friends when I was singled out because I was wearing my yarmulke. A leader of the pro-Palestinian protest approached our group and confronted me. He singled me out, yelling that I needed to move, and when I refused, he began to shove me out of the way.” The students concluded, “In a civilized community, one does not call for the obliteration of a major metropolitan area, praise terrorists, or threaten death and destruction upon our classmates and their families, friends, and coreligionists.”

A May 15th graduation ceremony was canceled as a result of the protests out of fear that it would be disrupted, leaving seniors feeling unrecognized after four years of difficult academics at the Ivy League university. “Those were real damages sustained by the 36,000 students at Columbia who chose to obey university rules, go to class, and pursue their education, only to be frustrated at the finish line by the … acts of their classmates and professors, with the assistance and encouragement of outside activists,” the students argued.

Progressive Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) on Wednesday filed a motion to begin impeachment proceedings against Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas, two of the court’s staunchest conservatives and frequent targets of the far left.

The filing comes after the high court has largely completed announcing a slew of decisions that have oscillated between wins for both the left and right, though progressives like AOC have continued to keep Alito, Thomas, and the court’s conservative majority in their sights. A steady drip of reporting over the past year has tied Thomas to several of the Republican Party’s most prolific billionaire donors, raising questions about how the Supreme Court enforces its ethics rules. The filing also mirrors a motion put forward by Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) requesting the Department of Justice appoint a special counsel to criminally investigate Thomas, according to MSNBC. They have cited his acceptance of travel and loan of a luxury car.

A simple majority in the U.S. House may pass articles of impeachment against a Supreme Court justice, teeing up a formal trial in the Senate. However, Republicans’ control of the lower body means AOC’s motion is all but dead on arrival. Under Democrats, the Senate previously held impeachment hearings against former President Donald Trump.

Similar to Thomas, Alito has been accused of accepting financial gifts without properly disclosing them, including in some cases by individuals with business before the court. AOC has accused Alito, appointed in 2005 by former President George W. Bush, of failing to recuse himself from cases where she claims he has a conflict of interest, MSNBC added.

Only one Supreme Court justice has ever been impeached. In 1805, Associate Justice Samuel Chase was impeached by the House, according to Fox 5 San Diego. Chase at the time was accused of refusing to dismiss biased jurors while excluding and limiting defense witnesses in political cases. He was acquitted about a year later and remained on the court until his death in 1811, the outlet added.

In June, justices ruled that sitting and former presidents are largely protected from criminal prosecution over official acts taken in office, largely vindicating arguments made by attorneys for former President Donald Trump. The decision rocked Washington and has thrown his remaining three criminal trials into chaos, with all expected to be delayed well past the November election. Should Trump win, he would hold the power to order the DOJ to drop both federal cases against him. In Georgia, a state-level prosecution of election interference has been badly hampered by unforced errors committed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

While the motion may be good politics for Democrats, it wasn’t enough for Rep. Ocasio Cortez to save her endorsement from the far left. On Wednesday the Democratic Socialists of America rescinded their June 23rd endorsement of the progressive darling, citing an online forum she held with several progressive Israel supporters who denounced antisemitism among progressive activists. Meanwhile, consternation over President Joe Biden’s ability to win the election has thrown his party into free fall as leading figures, including former President Barack Obama, appear cautious to limit calls for him to end his reelection bid.

Speaking with reporters Monday evening, the Bronx native toed the line when commenting on recent concerns about the president’s health and mental acuity, saying she intends to support him as the nominee. She “spoke to the president over the weekend,” AOC told a scrum outside the Capitol.

I’m here to win on this democracy, I’m here to win in November, and what’s critically important is what I believe the president needs to do… in order to make sure that we win in November… that is making sure that we pivot and working and increasingly commit to the issues that are critically important to working people across this country.

After nearly a blistering two weeks of negative feedback following his disastrous debate performance, President Biden on Tuesday appeared to have shored up his exposed flank, keeping Democrats and especially progressives in line who fear forcing him out of the race would only set up President Trump for a decisive win. Six House Democrats have called on the party to begin searching for a new nominee, none of which count themselves among the ultra-liberal “Squad” caucus.

AOC’s request that the media put Biden’s debate in the rearview mirror came one day after the president released a two-page letter telling Democrats much the same.

“Now that you have returned from the July 4th recess, I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump,” Biden wrote. “I have had extensive conversations with the leadership of the party, elected officials, rank and file members, and most importantly, Democratic voters over these past 10 days or so. I have heard the concerns that people have – their good faith fears and worries about what is at stake in this election. I am not blind to them.”

Conservatives are crowing and Democrats are fuming following a landslide loss by Congressman Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) on Tuesday, and the “Squad” member may soon see his feat repeated by another far-left colleague.

Polling shows a tight race between Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-MO) and her primary challenger, whom she leads by just a single point according to USA Today. The survey of 400 likely voters between June 18th and 22nd carries a 4.9% margin of error, indicating Bush’s lead is far from certain. Wesley Bell, a progressive prosecutor for St. Louis County, has seen resonance with a promise to fight for liberal priorities without the drama and baggage carried by Bush.

The “Squad” member’s hold on the seat has been firm since she defeated Rep. William Lacy Clay (D-MO) in 2020 to win her first term. She has made plenty of avoidable errors as well, confusing Memorial Day with Veterans Day in a social media post, failing to understand the tax code when asked, and offering unsolicited opinions on race about selective criminal matters.

In a sign of how desperate the “Squad” has become to avoid consequences for their behavior, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) canceled her appearance at an Election Day rally with Bowman, underscoring how perilous it has become to chase progressive celebrity status by over-delivering on basic constituent services.

“Nobody who cares about them tried to help, tried to stop them, tried to say, ‘Hey, there’s a better way. You don’t need to do this. U.S. Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) — one of the most far-left representatives in Congress and member of the Progressive Caucus — has lost his primary election to a moderate challenger.

George Latimer, a Westchester County executive, defeated Bowman after a contentious primary race that has widely been viewed as a fight between ideological factions of the Democratic Party. Bowman had aligned himself with the “ceasefire now” movement, which calls for an end to hostilities in the Gaza Strip and accuses Israel of being complicit in genocide.

Millions of dollars poured into the race from both inside and outside the district, making it the most expensive House primary in history. According to an analysis from ad tracking firm AdImpact, more than $25 million was spent overall. Roughly $15 million came from the United Democracy Project, a super PAC linked to the powerful pro-Israel lobby American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), which backed Latimer.

Bowman had also aligned himself closely with the party’s progressive wing on a host of additional issues. Last weekend, the embattled congressman was joined by New York colleague Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for a rally in support of his candidacy.

The effort ultimately failed to make a difference, however, as the race was called for Latimer less than two hours after polls closed.

Bowman had also been battling a number of scandals, the most notable being the time he was criminally charged for pulling a fire alarm ahead of a key congressional vote on a budget resolution. He claimed that he thought pulling the alarm would open a door and ultimately forced an evacuation of the Cannon Building on Capitol Hill.

Bowman ultimately escaped with a slap on the wrist after writing an apology essay.

The New York congressman was also accused of numerous instances of plagiarism throughout his academic career.

As the Democratic nominee, Latimer will almost certainly be the next congressman from New York’s 16th district, which is located north of Manhattan. President Biden carried the district by 45 percentage points in 2020.

With the loss, Bowman becomes the first member of “the squad” to be successfully primaries this cycle. Other squad Democrats, including Reps. Summer Lee (D-PA) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), have been targeted with primary challenges but managed to survive.
