A host on The View broke off from the other women on the show when she said Meryl Streep’s shameful speech made her turn off the award show.
From The Daily Mail:
“Jedediah Bila quickly had her View co-hosts turn on her after she defended Donald Trump mocking a disabled reporter following a conversation on Meryl Streep’s Golden Globes speech.
The former Fox News contributor said she didn’t ‘know that [Trump] was mocking that reporter for being disabled’ and thought award shows shouldn’t involve politics.
In addition to the audience’s roar of disbelief, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin openly disagreed with Bila, sparking a heated debate.
At the Golden Globes award show, actress Meryl Streep made an impassioned speech about how Trump imitating a disabled reporter broke her heart.
Bila said when she first saw the clip of Trump she ‘clearly’ agreed he was mocking journalist Serge Kovaleski.
After watching ‘a series of clips of Donald Trump using those exact hand gestures to mock other people’, she said she didn’t ‘know that he was mocking that reporter for being disabled’.
Her co-hosts disagreed and Whoopi said: ‘the point is, he mocked a person. He’s a mocker!’
Joy Behar added: ‘At the very least, he should have the sense not to do those hand gestures to mock a reporter that’s disabled.’
Bila also said that Streep’s political statement at the show made her ‘turn it off’.
She said: ‘When I turn on an award show, I don’t want to be lectured about politics, climate change or the NRA or a left wing issue or a right wing issue.
‘I want to appreciate your talent as an actor. I want to appreciate these films and I want to leave the politics out of it.’
On Sunday night Streep -a three-time Oscar winner – let her feelings on Trump be known.
She said: ‘There was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good, there was nothing good about it, but it was effective and it did its job.”
